Join us for a day of community service and canoeing with Friends of the Chicago River (Executive Director: our own Laurene Von Klan ’81). We will start between 9 and 10am with a short and educational workday of brush cutting, weed pulling or seed collecting followed by a 2-3 hour canoe trip on the North Branch of the Chicago River and a box lunch. $75 per person (paid in advance) includes 16 canoes, safety equipment, paddling instruction, trained guides, expert docent to interpret river ecology and history, shuttle bus from Blue Star Memorial Woods to Skokie Lagoons, and a box lunch. Space is limited! We can accommodate up to 24 adults and 6 children over the age of 6. Please reply to Karen Friedman by August 20, 2004 to make your reservation (firm commitments necessary). Directions provided with reservation. Carpools can be arranged for car-less city dwellers.
