Sleep out for clean energy!

Come sleep out on Paresky Lawn this Monday, Nov 23rd to support clean energy! By refusing to sleep in your dirty-energy powered dorm you will be joining a statewide campaign to push Massachusetts to become a leader in sustainability and pass a bill that will repower the state with 100% clean energy by the year 2020.

Join us Monday night to learn more about this campaign, show your commitment to clean energy, and raise awareness around campus. We know you all have a lot of work, but this is a great opportunity for activism, and all you have to do is sleep!

We will be checking in at 10:00 PM on Paresky lawn to get set up, sign petitions and make phone calls to Gov. Patrick. We will supply the tents, but be sure to bring a sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and lots of warm layers.

Hope to see you there!

Check out The Green Scene for more details:

& Just to Clarify...

Since I've been getting a bunch of emails asking questions (which is great, don't hesitate to ask more),

We are also accepting photographs and short stories, in addition to essays and poems. All written works must be in Spanish, and we will edit them and lay them out. There is no minimum or maximum length. All photos must be ones that you have taken while traveling in a Spanish-speaking country. We hope to hear from more of you in the coming week!

If you have a vehicle on campus and are going home for Thanksgiving Break without it, I would greatly appreciate the ability to use it in your absence. I have nearly 6 years of driving experience and a pristine record with no citations or damages. I can drive a manual (stick). I can offer cash in exchange or take the car for basic maintenance while I have it (oil change, etc), or both. A full tank of gas is guaranteed on your return.

My family is 1600 miles away and the costs of flying far exceed potential utility, but I do have close friends within driving range where no bus travels. I've been stuck on campus the last two Turkey Days and know how many cars are left in the various student lots unused.

Email me at bts1 if we can possibly work something out.

Lost my room key at homecoming.
Most likely dropped around tailgate area or the football game bleachers...

It is a single key with a key chain dangling on it.
The key chain is a cute ball-shaped brown lion figure, and you can take out the yellow egg face.. (it sounds creepy, but you'll see what I mean if you see it)

If you saw it/know where it is,
please contact me at hc2@williams.edu!!!!

Ephs for EEF!!!

My colleague and I were fortunate enough to have our Winter Study: Examining Women’s Education in Ethiopia approved for this coming January. In this month, we will serve as interns for two major Non-profit Organizations in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: Ethiopia Reads and Ethiopian Education Foundation (EEF). Our work entails reading to children in a community center and teaching English at a private school. EEF aims to provide scholarships for low- income youth, sending them to some of the best secondary schools in the country. One of our tasks is to raise $2700 for the building of housing for the aforementioned female scholarship-recipients. We are looking for contributions to reach our goal by the beginning of Winter Study. Any donation is significant and is greatly appreciated. Donations can be made electronically through our website:

http://www.bmycharity.com/V2/ephs4eef

If you have any questions, please feel free to email us (ajs4@williams.edu or rmr1@williams.edu)

You will also find additional information on the website.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Aubree Stephens and Raneia Ramadan

If you are going to take the class in the spring, email me @ maw1.

Lost: coat

I believe I lost it at Hardy House -- I left for an hour and when I came back, it was gone. It's a thin, black peacoat with a few crisscrossing white stripes on the lining and a plaid handkerchief in the inside pocket. It has a white tag on the inside below the collar and a zipper where the hood zips on. If you accidentally took it, or see it anywhere around campus, let me know. It's a piece of clothing that means a lot to me and I'd be grateful if it got back to me. 10amt@williams.edu

STOLEN MOUNTAIN BIKE

No one gets in trouble!! I just want it back!!

My bike was taken from in front of the Physics building on a Thursday sometime between 9:55 and 11:10. The bike has a dark blue frame that says Mt. Richmond along the side. The front fork is from a different bike, so it is silver and a teal color. There are also front shocks on the bike. Overall, its not in great shape and you should be able to hear it coming (It squeaks pretty bad). I really just want to get the bike back. If anyone can give me any information on it, please do.

If you stole it, or even just wanted to take it for a joyride, or get somewhere quick, please just let me know where it is. I don't care.

Thank you.

WANTED: Students for live sport webcasts

WANTED: Students for live sport webcasts

We are working with Sports Information to provide live webcasts for athletic events in Williams. This student-run service is considered as a campus job and you'll be paid by Sports Information.

During a major athletic event, a production crew will typically consist of two camera operators and one technical director that manages the audio/video switchboard. Four to five people may be needed for one production, and they are rotated during half-time. Don't worry if you know nothing about video cameras or video switchboards -- we'll provide the training.

Interested students should email Danny Y. Huang at yh1 [at] williams [dot] edu. Please include your name, class year, and phone number.

You will not be paid if you meet any of the following criteria:You are a freshman already with a campus job.You are a freshman without a campus job and you do not receive Financial Aid.

Nonetheless, first-year students are always welcome to help out!

Find out more about what we do on our website: http://www.PurpleValleyFilms.com/webcast

Free Bike Repairs!

In past years, the Purple Bike Coalition has offered free repairs to Williams students, faculty, and staff on an appointment basis. In an effort to make the service easier and more accessible, we are starting regular hours this fall.
*The shop is located on the first floor of Mark Hopkins in the Greylock Quad*, and starting this week, it will be open during the following times:

Thursday: 1:30-3:30PM
Friday: 2:00-3:50PM
Sunday: 7:00-9:00PM

If you have a flat tire, if your gears aren't working right, or if you have any other bike-related issues, please stop by. If you have any questions or remarks, feel free to e-mail one of the mechanics at 10cff, 10dag, or mws2.

****

The free repairs are paid for by the Center for Environmental Studies and College Council in an effort to encourage biking as an alternative means of transportation both at Williams and elsewhere.

Stolen Silver Trek 4500 Mtn. Bike

On 6/2/09 my silver Trek 4500 Mountain bike was taken from outside of Poker Flats A in the later afternoon, around 5pm. It had a black ROXX SHOXX Jett suspension fork, an attached pump and combination lock, and a black plastic rear mud fender with a blue and red Obama / Biden sticker from Moveon.com attached to it. Details of what I must assume was the theft have been submitted to campus security and the WPD. If anyone can provide me with information leading to the recovery of my bicycle, I will happily fund a reward of no less than $50 (more if conditions permit). If I recover my bicycle, for whatever reason, with whom so ever chooses to help me, be it even the original "borrower", I will only report to the authorities that I have recovered the bike. Please, if you have seen a silver mountain bike recently, let me know.

WHY: I'm studying abroad, won't need phone anymore.

I have "lost" a yellow ski jacket. I'm 99% sure, though, that on Friday night I just left it in my common room, on the first floor of Lehman. If you were at the party downstairs and found it and used it to get home warmly, that's fine, but I'd like it back as soon as possible- just please leave it in the same (103) common room. If it's found randomly, though, I would really appreciate a call or e-mail:
