The Williamstown Theater Festival is looking for volunteer ushers over the summer for most, if not all of their shows. You don't have to commit to all of them. While you are volunteering (not paid), you're encouraged to attend the show for free after you've fulfilled your duties! This is open to everyone - students, faculty, staff, partners, and anybody else able bodied. Check out this link for more information.

the crack throne needs a good home

I left campus on Friday, but I also left something in my room. It's a wicker chair that looks like this:
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_kj3SAjAIuTQ/TLtusIIpMTI/AAAAAAAAB5Q/a3aqpkHlN6Y/s1600/Wicker_Chair(1).jpg
It's an extremely comfortable chair and a pretty darn cool conversation piece.
It's in West 402, and I would greatly appreciate it if someone would give the crack throne a good home (or, like, throw it in their storage pod) so I don't get charged.
Let me know if you do! cr1@williams.edu
Happy sitting

I lost this DVD a couple of days ago, most likely in Jesup. Let me know if you see/have it, or if you happen to "borrow" it, just drop it off in the library would be great! It belongs to Sawyer Library and I really don't want to pay ridiculous fine for it.
Thanks so so much!

MISSING BOX FRAME IN WEST GIVE IT UP POD!

A box frame for a full size mattress was taken from the “Give it Up” Pod outside of West. As a worker, I was responsible for moving that box frame from the give it up pod. We have the full-size mattress that goes to the set, and the box frame is useless without it, as is the mattress. PLEASE, if you know who took it, took it yourself call 561-212-6729 to arrange to give it back…no judgement…no trouble…we just need it back! You are not supposed to take things from the give it up pods, unless you are a worker because mostly all is being donated to charity.

Thank you!

I lost a charm from my necklace...I'm not sure exactly when or where, but I just noticed it a couple of weeks ago and can't find it anywhere. It's silver and looks like a boy with his hands behind his back:

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151299741522786&l=bf2cf711f0 (Hopefully this link works...)

Now that the year is coming to an end, I'm desperate to get this back before I lose it forever. It has a lot of sentimental value to me, and I'd be willing to offer a reward if someone had found it. Please let me know if that someone is you!

We have an awesome upright chest freezer that's looking for a new home. It's about 3x4x4 ft, in great condition and holds a lot. Great for freezing meat and leftovers. People living in a co-op or off campus should consider it. It's way more useful than you'd think--probably our most prized possession after our dish washer. We'd be happy to show it to anyone who's interested. (Or send pics/more accurate measurements). Could be stored in the Rectory over the summer and picked up in the fall.

We paid $160 for it. Price negotiable. Email nj2@williams.edu if interested.

Hey everyone,

I will be working in Palo Alto this summer and am in need of housing for 10 weeks while I am there. I am not familiar with the area or CA at all for that matter so if someone would be willing to house me or point me to some places to look into, that would be extremely appreciated. Email me at kej1 if you have any suggestions.

Would really appreciate you letting me know if you see it around anywhere :)

Selling Bike in Oxford

I'm selling my bike at the WEPO program. It's £85 (~$130), but I'm willing to be a little flexible. It would fit anyone between 5'6" and 6'2". It comes with lights and locks. It's way nicer than renting a program bike, which costs £75. Email me at wje1@williams.edu if you're interested.

2013 Yearbook

I'm sure there are some seniors out there who, through some cruel twist of fate, missed out on ordering a yearbook and, now that they see their shiny awesomeness, desperately want one. Well if that sounds like you, you're in luck! Due to some miscommunication errors, I ended up with two, so I'm selling my extra. And here's the awesome part...they cost $65 originally, but I'm willing to let it go for the low, low price of $50! I'm even willing to negotiate, if that's what it takes to get you walking away with a brand new 2013 yearbook!

Seriously, they're actually pretty cool, so hit me up if you want one.

SELLING: Kaplan MCAT subject study books

I am selling a box of Kaplan MCAT study books for the 2013/2014 MCAT. It includes 5 subject books and a quick review pamphlet.
I found these books SUPER helpful in studying for the MCAT (and I didn't take the Kaplan course, I just used the books).
They are very slightly worn, but I did not write in the books (all of the practice tests, etc are clean).

Selling for 50$ (slightly less than half of what I paid for them)

Alright. It's 12:50 am and you need to watch a film to unwind, after a long bout of poker playing and hopscotch. But, alas! There is a television but no DVD player. Then, boom! Past you helped future you out by buying a DVD player from Gabe Stephens (reachable at gss2). And why not? It has only been used once. It has HD and HDMI capability. It's gorgeous. It's perfect. And now you can unwind by watching Forrest Gump or something else weird for a Saturday night.

Which reminds me, I want to sell this now. Like now. All I want for it is 35 dollars, hagglable.

Also, it has an intact remote.

Lost this winter: Gray infinity scarf

A while back, I lost a warm, wooly, gray infinity scarf that is quite dear to me. It is made of an old sweater, and is mostly gray with some orange markings on one side. The tag on it reads "Furst of a Kind."

This scarf actually belongs to my very hip mother, and I would hate to tell her that I lost it. If someone picked it up this winter, please, please shoot me an email. There will be no hard feelings -- I'd just like to get it back, if it's floating around out there.

If you want to do the Walt Whitman thing this summer my husband and I have 30 acres of woodland 2 miles from campus where you could camp out.

You would have tons of privacy.

In exchange you could do about 8 hours a week of work on the property:
putting in livestock fence, moving some brush, that sort of thing.

We could put a camper up there to make a small camp in the woods if you wanted. You could also pitch a tent or build that yurt you have been dreaming of.

My family has an extra room at the Maple Terrace that we can no longer make use of. The hotel is 1/2 mile from Williamstown, has a pool and brilliant views, and is very clean. We’ve been staying with Anne and Kjell as long as I’ve been coming to Williams and they’ve always been excellent.

Here is the website:
http://www.mapleterrace.com

The room has two double beds and is reserved for the nights of Friday May 31, Saturday Jun 1, and Sunday Jun 2. The total for all three nights was $566.31. If you need more room, we also have a two room suite; one room has a queen bed, the other has two singles.

If you your family or friends are still looking for a place to stay during graduation, please do get in touch with me! My phone number is 717 381 6673, or you can email cme1@williams.edu

I lost my wallet in the Estrogym today (5/2) around 11am. It's made of American flag-print Tyvek paper and contains my credit/debit cards, license, and ID. I'd really love to have it back, less for the money it contained (~$35) and more for sentimental/practical reasons. If you stole it with the intent of taking the money and disposing of/keeping the wallet, please just return the cards to my SU box (1154). I won't ask any questions.

On Campus Summer Tech Startup Internships

Williams Business Plan Competition winning company Pipe and Quill is looking for bright, creative, and insightful students to join our growing team. We’re an educational app company that disrupts obsolete educational paradigms with innovative products. We’re accepting applications now for full-time summer positions both on campus and remote. Housing is provided and stipends may be available depending on experience.

Please submit your applications to internapp@pipeandquill.com or apply on Route 2. Include your resume and an optional brief statement about why you think you’ll be a valuable member of our team and bring new ideas to the table. In the subject of your email, let us know if you consider yourself more of a technical, creative, or business development applicant. All are valuable, and if you don’t fit these categories feel free to say so. Spaces are limited and applicants will be evaluated on a rolling basis.

EconGrapher, our flagship product, launched in the Apple App Store at the beginning of this calendar year. It’s a new way to graph, export, and interact with economic models taught in introductory level economics courses. The app provides a clear value for students studying or completing problem sets, and professors find it extremely useful for creating class materials. We’re at the forefront of educational technology and work on some extremely interesting problems at every turn.

Our team is highly experienced and fun to work with. At Pipe and Quill, everyone is a top player in their own domain, but we also all have common knowledge that lets us come together and build features that leverage unique talents in new ways.

We offer interns a great deal in terms of experience, education, and opportunities to make a difference. At a small startup like ours, everyone’s effort sees immediate results and plays a large strategic role in the company’s success. Because of the importance of your contribution, we will invest time and care teaching you the skills required to succeed in the world of tech startups. You will see what it takes to build and ship features on a software project, and at the same time you’ll learn more about the business, marketing, and legal challenges faced by a modern startup. By the end of the program, you’ll know enough to have a good idea of what makes Silicon Valley type of startups tick.

Applicants should have an interest in at least two of the following areas: educational methods/technology, marketing and advertising, software development, blogging, customer relationships, business strategy, digital teaching methods, graphic design, UI Design, or startup finance. We are looking for applicants that are familiar with, but don’t need to be experts on: social media, email marketing, smartphone apps, and economics (only an intro class is OK.) Technical applicants should have some experience with object oriented languages, preferably Objective-C, but other applicants need no coding experience.

Myth of Diversity talk

What place do departments like Africana Studies, Latino/a Studies, and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies have at a liberal arts college like Williams? Does reading The Republic teach critical thinking skills in a superior way than a class like Queer Gardens?

Peter Wood, author of “Diversity: The Invention of a Concept” and “What Does Bowdoin Teach?” will be talking about diversity, identity politics and the state of liberal arts colleges this Friday in Perry Goat Room at 8pm.

Over the past few decades, liberal arts colleges have made tremendous changes in terms of their values and what they perceive their role and responsibilities to be. Mr Wood’s work addresses those changes with a uniquely critical eye. His most recent work on Bowdoin received widespread media coverage from the Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, along with newspapers like the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald.

For Sale: 2005 Volvo XC70 Cross Country

2005 Volvo XC70 Cross Country
$5,975
148,600 miles
MPG Range: 18 - 24 mpg

Complete listing and photos available here:
http://albany.craigslist.org/cto/3680662730.html

My friend is selling his car, this is his description:

All Wheel Drive, Power everything, Leather, Heated Seats, Fold Down Rear Seats for tons of Cargo Space, Automatic Sunroof, Roof Rack, New Tires

Handles like a dream with a great suspension and fluid movement & the Turbo has super pickup. Perfect handling in bad conditions and has a special setting for wet weather and snow.

Very Clean and Running Perfectly, Just selling because I'm moving and have another car. It has 2 minor cosmetic imperfections: a small dent in the rear drivers side and a large chip in the drivers side mirror. Completely rust free and the mirror still works perfectly, but because of these I have reduced the price. I am including pictures of the imperfections. I've never had even a hint of engine or transmission problems with this car. The only issues I ever had were replacing a wheel bearing and changing the fuel pump. The only other services ever required were oil changes and tune ups, which I did regularly. This is a great, luxurious car with many miles left to drive.

If you are interested in purchasing this car or if you have any questions, please email me at djw3@williams.edu. Thanks!

We're getting a pod from Connors Brothers for the summer and splitting the cost. It should be about 100 dollars each if split 4 ways. If split 5 ways, 125 dollars. The amount of splits will be determined by the amount of stuff we all have. It's guaranteed to fit 4 people's things, provided they don't go crazy.

Destination ImagiNation (DI) is a non-profit creative theater program that teaches problem solving and teamwork through the creation of original skits by teams of students. I've been coaching a team from Williamstown elementary school (now middle school) for the past 4 years but will be graduating this spring. The students really want to continue doing DI so I'm looking for a coach to help out next year. We normally meet once a week for an hour and a half. No previous experience with DI necessary.
Beautiful Summer Sublet next to TC Coffee

Hi everyone!

I'm a 2012 alum who is living in an apartment a block each from Tunnel City Coffee and the art building. I'm a teacher so I get the whole summer off and I plan to go home to NY for the summer. So I am looking for someone to live in my home during that time so this nice place doesn't go to waste!

The apartment has a huge parking lot, a big backyard, a front porch with a table where you can have breakfast and other meals, a fully equipped kitchen with a breakfast nook, walk-in pantry, oven, and dishwasher, a laundry room, a sun room, a living room with huge windows (5) and a fireplace, 2 bedrooms, and of course a bathroom. Fully furnished with comfortable and adorable furniture.

I'm looking for someone to be considerate of the space and use the apartment well! Please contact me at paisleykang@gmail.com if you are interested!!!

Thanks,

Somebody seems to have stolen it from my guitar case in the music building. I don't know what use you may have for it since most whammy bars are guitar specific, but please return it to the guitar case/my mailbox. It is a terrible inconvenience to not have a vibrato arm for practice and I'd be very grateful to have it back.

Lost my sweatshirt probably right before thanksgiving break. Likely to have been left either around *Paresky* or in the depths of *Wood House*. It's a *white tommy hilfiger sweatshirt with hood* and it's pretty *thick with faux fur on the inside lining the sleeves*. It was kind of the only Christmas present I got last year =( so I'd definitely appreciate it if someone has spotted it lying around somewhere. Note: there might be some, uh, regurgitation on it, given the state I was in when I lost it. If you're afraid to touch it, please just email me at rn2 the spot you found it. Thanks!

HUDSON TUTORING

Today we will have a Writing Workshop tutor available in Rm 114

The Writing Workshop tutor will be available from 8pm -12am.

Today we only have 1 writing workshop tutor. We would therefore appreciate it, if you sign up here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AvLCtb1QoJPRdDJkUTRWMHhOcnpDUmRYWUNHdXZFc1E#gid=0 for an appointment. It’s no fun for the tutor when 5 students come in at once, so please use the google document to make an appointment.

There are only 30 minute slots available today. You may sign up for two 30 minute slots, if you want. Time slots that remain open can be considered “walk-in” hours. During “walk-in” hours the tutor will see students on a first-come, first-serve basis (until the time of the next scheduled appointment). Also NO walk-ins allowed after 11pm. Check back (on the google doc) later tonight to see if slots are added for after 12am.

Wanted: spring and summer bike-sitter

Are you a) on campus for spring and summer ‘13 and b) a responsible adult capable of not breaking things? I’m going abroad and I want to stash my bike with someone so I don’t need to haul it to storage in the next town over. You’d be welcome to use my bike (red Giant mountain bike, on the small side but very functional) during the spring and summer, and in fact, it’d be probably be good if you did, to decrease the chance that security confiscates it! And if you’re off campus for a few weeks at the beginning/end of summer, it’s no big deal—security just wants to know that someone is “in charge” of my bike so they don’t clip it. And of course, you should not let it get stolen, periodically put air in the tires, etc. Email me if you’re interested!

Do you need a responsible pet sitter?

Hello! My name is Paisley and I am a ‘12 living in the area! Right now I’m an art teacher. I have professional experience as a dog sitter/walker/trainer with a service in NYC, and have always had dogs of my own growing up. I am happy to sit dogs, cats, rabbits, fish, and more! I live a block from Tunnel City Coffee and Spencer Art Building, so I am within walking distance of anywhere near campus. I also have a car, so I could drive to your place to visit your pets.

Give me a call at 718-551-7118 or send me an email at paisleykang@gmail.com!

Geosciences: A Major Opportunity (tonight)

h1. Geosciences: A Major Opportunity

*Do you love being in the outdoors? Do you like getting paid to do research? Do you love to travel?*

You can do all of these things and more by majoring or taking classes in the Geosciences. If you're simply interested, or thinking about majoring, come find out what the GEOS department is all about on *Tuesday* (Oct. 23rd) at *7:00pm* in Clark Hall 105. *Free pizza and refreshments will be served*.

*Some perks of being a Geosciences major:*
* Take advantage of one of the best major student/faculty ratios (around 1:1) at Williams, with professors who are all published and respected experts in their field
* Receive first priority on GEOS courses and research with travel components (think *Hawaii*, *Colorado*, the *Galapagos Islands*, *Baja California*, the *West Coast of Ireland* and many more)
* Participate in great summer and Winter Study research, both in-lab and involving field work
* Study-away opportunities with premier universities, field camps, and educational programs around the world, including the Williams-Mystic Maritime Studies Program
* Engage in fully-funded senior honors thesis study at exciting locations around the U.S. and around the world
* Take advantage of *fully-funded*(!) post-grad study, paid for by corporations and institutions interested in your research
* A fulfilling and lucrative field of work after college, in areas where you can make a difference. Starting salaries are the same as those in finance and computing, and higher than those in architecture, poli. sci, and business management, according to _payscale.com_. (One of the few majors with near 0% unemployment, according to _http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/10-college-majors-lowest-unemployment-rates-163049193.html_)

This is the second time this week I got $25 stolen from the same spot from my wallet. I had set it aside (both times) because I owed a friend money. I noticed it the first time after eating dinner at Driscoll with the crew team (wallet was in my gym bag) and noticed a second time today after coming out of lab TA-ing (wallet was in my backpack outside of lab with everyone else's backpacks). If you could please be a decent human being and return the $50 to my mailbox (1755) that would be great. This whole money-stealing thing is getting ridiculous.

Missing: Full-size bed frame base

Was stored in a pod outside of Morgan, awaiting my arrival. Last seen Monday afternoon.

Perhaps you or your parent wandered into the wrong pod and it ended up in your possession. Maybe you thought it was a great steal (then realized it's useless without the frame legs and parts that I have). Please kindly put it back. No questions asked.

Looking forward to sleeping a few inches off of the floor,

Looking for an August Sublet in NYC?

I am looking for someone to sublet one room in NYC for the month of August. I live in a two bedroom apartment, and one of the bedrooms will be unoccupied in August. The apartment is on 98th Street between Lexington and 3rd Ave. (2 blocks from the 6 train), and the bedroom will come fully furnished. The price is extremely reasonable for the location. Please contact me at 10ssl@alumni.williams.edu if interested. (This is for Sarah Lee, '10).

If you find it please call me at 1917-690-1473 or email me at pad1@williams.edu. This watch is very dear to me I'd really really deeply appreciate it if you contacted me if you find it or see it on anyone!
Thank you very much!
