DODD: Maleness and Femaleness Desired From: Marissa P. Shieh '15
Posted: Saturday March 31

Dearest current and future Dodd neighborhood residents,

SITUATION: My friend and I are freshmen interested in joining the glorious Dodd neighborhood next year. Unfortunately, he’s a guy and I’m a girl. We’re entrymates and happily and completely platonic friends interested in adventure, the arts, geekery, and generally cool stuff. Our original game plan was to room together to both avoid the trek from the Tyler’s and to possibly form a pleasant abode in Dodd circle. PROBLEM: my parents aren’t keen on the idea of co-ed rooming. I thought I could be rebellious and stick to the original decision, but my resolution has wavered after going home for spring break. We have, however, already submitted our pick group info to the powers that be (the group consists of only the two of us). Now, to the title of the post: is anyone willing to double in Dodd with us? We need one girl and one guy. We’ll be doing each other a favor by decreasing our odds of getting stuck in the Annex/House. Since we’ll be a different pick groups, I guess the individual with the later pick number will just pick in to the chosen double.

Descriptions of both Austin Nguyen and Marissa Shieh:
Chill and nice
Reasonably clean/neat people (you can pop by our rooms if you wish to assess for yourself)
Respectful of space
Bedtimes around 12:30-1 am
Shower in the afternoon/evening
Photographers (Note: I use digital, but Austin, being cooler, works both film and digital)
Attended the 2012 Alternative Spring Break to Appalachia
Love travelling
Not heavy partiers/drinkers, but make appearances at some dances and parties

Marissa:
Conversational in Chinese
From NYC
Enjoys Doctor Who, Sherlock, Breaking Bad, and Disney movies
Listens to Top 40, classical, and random things like the Red Hot Chili Pipers (Rock n’ Roll bagpipe style)
Treats Facebook like Tumblr (but only averaging roughly a post a day)
Likes sunlight and fresh air (so the windows will be open on occasion)
Keeps an aloe plant as greenery and first-aid for potential burns
Has an alarm clock radio set to NPR
Light sleeper
Takes the occasional afternoon nap
Window shops Anthropologie, Eddie Bauer, Nat Geo, and Thinkgeek (light-saber remote-controlled room light, anyone?)
Possible Anthropology-Sociology double-major (but really more undecided than anything)
Currently trying to learn the harmonica, used to play piano in the olden days
Works at Hopkins Forest
Likes reading and is thinking of subscribing to Time and Scientific American next year

Austin:
Las Vegas Native (but cannot offer any advice on proper poker playing or strip tease techniques)
Politically liberal about many issues, but not offensively so (the works: women’s rights, gay rights, etc)
WOOLF leader for the Class of 2016 (FUCK YEAH!)
Wilderness First Responder Certified (via Winter Study)
P.E. Class taken: Kayaking (1st quarter), Hiking (2nd quarter), and Rock Climbing (3rd quarter)
Interested in biology and studio art; likes to draw and photograph
Is a fan of indie (as disparaged as that term has become) music. Recent concerts: Fleet Foxes (Sept 2011), Andrew Bird (November 2011), Blind Pilot (February 2012). In the works: Passion Pit (!!!? April 2012)
Avoids naps whenever possible
Enjoys going on photo excursions, folding cranes, and jogging to Hopkins
Likes natural lighting (windows would be open during warmer months)
Generally excitable, but often laid back about most things
Interested in getting involved in The Record, JA Selection Committee, WOC Board, and Photo Club for next year
Would LOVE to learn piano + any musical instrument, really

Overall, we’re looking for people…
- willing to double in Dodd that meshes well with each of us in terms of interests and living style
- looking to find a room in Dodd circle, ideally one of the little houses. THE DREAM: Sewall, Goodrich, or Parsons (!).
- interested in avoiding the Tylers

If you’re interested, shoot us an e-mail at mps4 or atn3 so we can meet for lunch (or dinner or climbing wall or whatever) so all parties can make sure this is something they want. LET’S TALK. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Marissa (original draft) and Austin (edited and added)
