| Academic Conference at Williams | From: Maya Y. Dennis '13 Posted: Thursday July 12 |
On October 12-13, 2012, Williams College will be hosting its first academic conference entitled ‘Crossing Borders.” We’re looking for work that ‘crosses borders’ in any sense of the word. So whether your research crosses academic disciplines (ie: Psychology in Art, Math in Music, or Africana Studies in Comparative Literature) or physical borders (ie: Immigration Policies Abroad, Political Theory in Africa or Medicinal Practices in Southeast Asia) you’re research could be showcased this Fall! The concept of ‘crossing borders’ is to be interpreted loosely and welcomes Humanities, Sciences, Pre-Professional disciplines, or some combination of all three. Again, we are searching for crossing borders of any kind, so, performance pieces and creative work are welcome as well.
The program committee has extended the deadline for proposals to August 1, 2012. Proposals may fall under at least one of the following categories:Full Sessions (1.5 hours long and may include up to 3 presenters (20 minutes a piece) plus a commentator)
Individual Presentations (papers, posters, etc.)
Exhibition or Performance of creative work
This would be a great chance to meet other people working in various parts of academia, a wonderful preparation for graduate school and practice for presenting an Honors Thesis, a Winter Study Project, or even an Independent Study. (Not to mention a great addition to your resume)
Please send a 350-word abstract by August 1, 2012 to Amy Merselis (amy.merselis@williams.edu). Any questions can be addressed to the Program Committee Chair, Gail Newman (gnewman@williams.edu).
