Something happened to management culture decades ago and now being a Master of Business Administration, especially from Harvard, is rather on the nose. MBA, it's being said, can also stand for 'Mediocre but Arrogant', or 'Management by Accident'.

The electricity grid is a marvel of reliability, but, in many ways, a throwback to century-old technology. And for a future with more computers and gizmos of every kind — and more power from renewable sources — the grid is going to need some major work.

MBA Jargon Watch is the illegitimate brainchild of an MBA and full-time member of the dotcom proletariat petite bourgeoisie (I got a promotion). The intent of the Web site is to elucidate, amuse, and gently mock users and consumers of management, business, and consulting jargon. The definitions listed were selected using JargonRank, a proprietary measure based on the word's frequency of use among management professionals, students, professors and staff.

Today, regions in every continent experience periodic water stress in one form or another. In places such as China, India, the Sahel, the Middle East, Southern Europe, Northern Africa and the American Southwest, water constraints and their impacts may soon be chronic, posing a significant challenge to the lives of billions of humans. The associated ecological impacts may be devastating. Sustainable water resource development, planning and management have emerged as a global challenge in the 21st century. A changing climate and increasing water use by rapidly growing populations is constraining fresh water availability in many regions. The problems of water pollution and the lack of access to safe drinking water and sanitation are emphasized as scarcity increases. Principles of water allocation and governance need to be revised to promote efficient water use as part of a sustainable development strategy, and to recognize that water supply and consumption are changing in significant…

The mission of the Lenfest Center is to develop technologies and institutions to ensure a sufficient supply of environmentally sustainable energy. To meet this goal, the Center supports research programs across Columbia University to develop solutions that will satisfy the world’s future energy needs. Most of the Center’s work is focused on the technology and institutions needed for development of the three major energy resources sufficient to support the world's projected population in 2100 without increased carbon emissions: solar, nuclear, and fossil fuels combined with carbon capture and storage.

This tool will generate a venture financing term sheet based on your responses to an online questionnaire. It also has an informational component, with basic tutorials and annotations on financing terms. This term sheet generator is a modified version of a tool that we use internally, which comprises one part of a suite of document automation tools that we use to generate start-up and venture financing-related documents.

Filmed over the course of more than six years at some of nature's most spectacular locales – from Acadia to Yosemite, Yellowstone to the Grand Canyon, the Everglades of Florida to the Gates of the Arctic in Alaska – The National Parks: America's Best Idea is nonetheless a story of people: people from every conceivable background – rich and poor; famous and unknown; soldiers and scientists; natives and newcomers; idealists, artists and entrepreneurs; people who were willing to devote themselves to saving some precious portion of the land they loved, and in doing so reminded their fellow citizens of the full meaning of democracy. It is a story full of struggle and conflict, high ideals and crass opportunism, stirring adventure and enduring inspiration – set against the most breathtaking backdrops imaginable.

Turkey is often mentioned as the West’s bridgehead to the Middle East—but Turkey could just as well be the Islamic world’s bridgehead in Europe.

Every six years, Congress sets the country's transportation and infrastructure priorities — allocating hundreds of billions of dollars for projects that shape our communities for generations. We need to raise our voices and make sure they use this moment to chart a new direction for our nation's transportation system. Help us urge President Obama and Congress to create the world-leading, sustainable transportation system we so desperately need.

The 65th birthday party of Jacob Zuma was a splendid affair. Hundreds of the political and business elite of Durban, a humid old British colonial city on the Indian Ocean, had gathered in a convention centre decorated as a star-filled night sky. A Zulu praise-singer roared a tribute. Five of Zuma’s daughters performed a sketch to the tune of “Happy Birthday”. Everyone sang “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow”. As a small army of waiters wheeled in a 2m-long cake, “JZ” presided gracefully in a black-and-gold Nehru suit.

Speaking with reporters after a tea party rally in Austin today, Gov. Rick Perry said Texas can leave the union if it wants to. "Texas is a unique place. When we came into the union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave if we decided to do that," Perry said. "My hope is that America and Washington in particular pays attention. We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, who knows what may come of that." I posted the above audio so you can hear Perry for yourself. The audio changes because I missed the first part of his quote and got another reporter to replay that portion for me on their recorder. Perry also was asked whether the tea party anti-tax rallies are part of a growing national movement. "I have never seen the power of the grassroots as antimated and as focused and as coordinated…It is a very powerful moment in American history.
