As the crazed masses of ephchildren cerebrated, mulled and generally cogitated over which room to pick, College Council met in the SpiffGriff for yet another fin evening with College Council. My attendance was sporadic, as I was working on the Bell-Harman rooming syndicate which ended up acquiring most of the real estate in Bascom House. We also missed the likes of Mike Darowish, Brad Johnston, Angelo Patentas and Skip "anybody want my housing pick" Campbell. We plan to see them next week for fear of the by-law that demands they do CC calisthenics with the Rugby treasurer every morning.
The first item of business was a proposal for enlarging SAC by two members to meet the growing demand being placed on SAC. It passed 14-0-2. Next on the agenda was a discussion over the recent "hate crime" on the banners looming from Chapin's pediment. An amended proposal was passed (20-1-0) to 1) publish a DA message that voices the CC condemnation of the recent actions (which ran today, 5.1.97) and 2) an acceptance to speak at the Queer Pride Rally.
Brian Connors and Lisa Knappen, were allowed back on council (19-0-0) after a two-week hiatus and some worthy excuses: Jazz band and memory lose.
During members open time brought to us this week by Anh Nguyen, we debated the charging policy of the DA. It was brought to light that the DA loses money and while some may complain that it is unfair to charge at all, it was pointed out that the DA is a service provided by College Council, not a mandatory publication. It too must pay for it's typists, distributors and manager. It also recently had to enlarge it's size. Dropping the fee might be nice if we needed to lure people. And this stage, we have more that enough and the fee is minor.
On the subject of the weekly calendar,Medha Kirtane is looking in on having it distributed much like the Record so students can pick them up as opposed to having them put in their box and, in many cases, recycled. We thrive on feedback, so let us know how you feel about this idea (00mjk).
Shayla Harris informed us Luscious Jackson tickets are on sale everywhere ($5 now, $10 later) and that if you plan on going to the Berkshire Symphony, you can also get back in time as LJ will hit the stage around 10pm. Remember, it is this WEEKEND at the Rink.
Mike Ryan added some thoughts about the homepage. Apparently, he may have a chance to help the CC site this summer. Yes Mike! Also, the issue of selling software like Microsoft Word (although this program absolutely bites, according to Mike Ryan, Kate Flynn, Chris Bell and Andrew Kohl) or comparable programs at the beginning of the year for a few good reasons. One, it allows you to use Word or WordPerfect at home when you leave school. Secondly, when the server goes down, the whole campus is not dependent on being "keyed" in. Further thoughts on this in the future.
Heather Genovesi is getting pumped over the upcoming Race for the Cure, something she should really be applauded for considering the amount of work that has already gone into it...anyhew, she is looking for anyone who wants to dress up as Purple Cow. Please give her a jingle if this you want a chance at endless fame (x2825 will get you Heather).
Lastly, it was decided that Griffin 1 would be the home to Council for the remainder of the year. Please feel free to stop by.
