Last night, in the SpiffGriff as always, College Council embraced a number of your issues: from getting the bike team some new digs (now that the Squash courts are moving them out) to getting email terminals in the health center. We like that kind of thing (we even discussed yesterday's snowfall and moved to have B&G reroute any further snowfalls west toward those four quality colleges and Amherst). It's all about opinions@wso.williams.edu. Medha Kirtane handled opinions this week and reported further that Jesup always has boxes available for storage so don't buy new ones or try to salvage old ones. Noise level coming from Chapin events was discussed. Good things to look forward to: Menus on-line (Bert); Housing plans on-line (Bellboy and Housing Office); and the Weekly calendar picked up like Record. Biniam Gebre '00 stopped in to solicit support on forming a "think-tank" on the poor state of science literacy in this country. We offered a nice range of thought on the subject and an Ad-Hoc committee may come of it. Amanda Cowley, on the subject of Frosh Council, has been working on the idea of a Frosh Council mentor to maintain some continuity from year to year; an ex officio to keep them from reinventing the wheel (Peter Eyre '00 may be stepping up to the plate for the '98-'99 term). Matt McGough came by to restate the great events to Williams Thursday and Friday. It's like Currier Club, only more casual and livelier. Email him for tickets (97mjm). Or offer to help out with the event. (x6107) Ahn Nguyen then tried to get a personal parking spot for one of his constituents. No luck.

All those who applied for the student-faculty committees we thank you. The Council approved all the decisions (10-0-13) and they will be sent out be the end of the week. Saturday's Run for a Cure was wet, wild and woolly and in geniune Williams fashion. Great work Heather and her crew and to the brave souls that ran the beast. In an effort to continue some of the good that came of that run, I am looking into installing one of those $1 massage therapists next to the ATM. Just need some feedback (98csb). We closed on topics of a new computer for College Council (Mike D. recently discovered his Mac has worked well as a paperweight ...Mac Harman is equally pleased with the DuoDock as he has nominated for the Computer of the Year Award, 1972.). It should be noted here that we looked into speeding these guys up. We looked into a swift dropkick. What really is necessary for the secretary now with letterip is a powerpc computer to run this listserver program. I fortunately have recently picked up a PowerPC computer but ask that all CC secs in the future will have such hardware, let along Macs, is a bit biased. Fear not, this is not a hasty decision rather one that CCC specialists have looked at and DA typists have shed tears over. Next we moved into a SLAC talk (Amanda and Mac are keeping an eye on things) and some new clear and concise election bylaws (passed 21-2-0) by Sam Abelson will hopefully eliminate any gray areas in the Council elections to come. Lastly, let it be known the Purple Cow is coming Williams. I have no idea how.

MIA this Week: Skip Campbell, Forrest St.Clair, Monisha Agrawal, Shayla Harris, and Ben Monnie.

Respectfully,

C.Bell
