Sitting alone? It's ok, you've got me, some extended reading that beats rereading the local nutrition lore as well as examining the ways in which the College can metamorphisized Chicken Fingers on Monday and have it work it's way into sandwich form on Tuesday, soup on Wednesday and Thursday, Chicken Stir Fry on Friday and then back again as Fingers in time for the weekend. Writing to you is the College Minuteman, Chris Bellafonte '98. Every Friday from now 'til June, I will fill a small portion of the DA with which I will include the happenings at the College Council Meetings which occur every Thursday at 7:30pm in Griffin. Well it was CC 101 last night as we had Bert Leatherman '00 review the Robert's Rules of Order which brings about a logic/process to our meetings. He cited Katie Hansen's '00 (Simon & Schuster, 1996, $6.95) visual guide to these rules which hopefully shed light to the numerous new faces about the "voice vote to vote" and "voting not to vote" type scenarios. Joel Tolman '98, representing the Advisory Committee on Shareholder Responsibility, appeared to participate in a reopening of the divesting issue revolving around the large Phillip Morris stock holdings of this hallowed institute. Clarissa Shen, a quality gal who spent a good part of the summer working on grants at both the prestigious Coffee CooLAtta and more locally at Mass. MoCA discovered (1) what a major supporter P.M. is of: the Arts (which is hard to come by, esp. In lieu of the current state of the NEA), (2) Theater and Dance from Jacob's Pillow, the oldest and most prestigious dance center in the country as well as of Williamstown's own Theater Festival and lastly (3) how P.M. Is not strictly tobacco, rather is greatly comprised of Nabisco, Kraft, Breyers (ahh... a personal fav), Oscar Meyer, Miller Brewskis, Post Cereal, Toblerone (great stuff), Maxwell House, Jell-O (really?) and Lender's Bagels (the L stands for Quality) to name a few. Mike Darowish '98 then gave his Introduction to the Budget, showing how we start with $247,000, split it up into seven sub-groups (email 98med if you want breakdown specifics) like Activism groups, Music groups and such and eventually, in the current system, will funnel into the Stop Hunger at the Source fund, which goes to hungry college students looking for a small Hot Tomatoes pizza. Mac Harman '00 reported nearly 500 came to "Con Air" over the weekend and that his pipe dream is 2012 students (this would include those American-film- loving-Center-for-Development Economic types) clamoring to get into Bronfman to see "Shaft" or "Addicted to Love," the latter showing this weekend. Sam Abelson '98 reported that this year Student-Faculty committees will be reporting regularly to Council due to her initiative to get them more engaged and allow the student body to be more informed. Katie Hansen '00 reports that progress is being made on bringing a quality outdoor hoop center to the back of Mission. Mac and Amanda Cowley '98, the Co-Presidents, worked $10,000 out of Hopkins and we all will be seeking to come up with another $10,000 if anyone has some large bits of change running around in their top drawer. Currently Katie is getting figures on lines (yellow and purple vs. Chalk), surfaces (asphalt v. Mission floor tiling), hoops (regular ones v. Bell-proof jobbies), lighting (ah yeah) and such. Kate Ervin, head of SAC (Student Activities Comm.), confirmed rumors that Currier Club is in a week with tickets going on sale Monday. Keep your eyes peeled for Hip-Hop at the Log on Friday nights (the Log being open to all ages (almost, sorry Mt.Greylock HS and Williamstown Elementary), 21 or not). This will include rapping contest with Snoop Doggy Payne returning as Master of Ceremonies. Also keep the Spring open as we hope to bring some quality Jazz and Reggae throughout the year building up to a big concerto in the Spring (let's (Dave) not (Matthews) jump (Socks) to (Smell) conclusions). Soon to happen at Dodd is a fund that will make Sunday nights "a professor safe space," Amanda hopes, in which professors are encouraged to dine at Dodd cheaply to encourage interaction betwixt the student and the professor. Anh Nguyen '99 hopes everyone will make better use of the Bookboard to buy and sell books, so as to avoid selling your books to Water St. For the price of a few can deposits only to be sold back next year for three or four digits, depending on the prevailing winds. Elected to the Library Comm. Was Deborah Wilkie and Johno Olson. The Registrar Comm. Which deals with the handbook among other things, has added Bert Leatherman, David Walfish and Eric Soskin. Lastly, the Safety Comm.needed to add another because the office was broken into and most of the records were stolen and reportedly a life was threatened by a man wielding a ballpoint pen and letter opener (taken from Office Services) during the seizure. Carrie Ryan '00 kindly volunteered her services for the year. Lastly, some issues discussed during open time include the addition of Class listservers a la Matt Garland '98 and Johan W. '97. Kudos to those two gentlemen. Walfish wants to, and will, learn more on the Mission Park incident. Bert revisited idea for a campus@wso....with a williams-students@wso...account to allow for people, if they choose, to only get those all-campus emails of dire nature, not those of Psy. Experiment nature. Yolanda Rucker closed the night by introducing herself and telling us a bit about her (she is the wonderful new helpful hand in coordinating Student Activities, and will eventually reside somewhere in Baxter). Not in attendance were Fara Nabavi '98 who was accidently locked the janitorial closet in Wood and Jeremy Rothe-Kushel '00 who, after his narrow victory over our team in IM Soccer (to be avenged, no doubt) decided to treat himself to an evening of Port wine and cheese Bugles.
