Yet another joyous eve in the cellar of brick-faced Griffin as we embarked to complete the meeting by nine so we could bust a move to the Hot Tub and Reggae Party at Perry. I was under the impression it was a Russian Steam Hut and Reagan Bash. But we had both the event and timing wrong as the Steam Hut gig is going to happen over Winter Study and the Hot Tub is happening tomorrow from 11-3 (pm to am...this bad boy is going to be kickin' about the hour Amherst students are going to bed...). IV.Members Open Time: (A) Anh wonders when good email machines will come into SW corner of Baxter. Jesup says soon. CC says sooner. (B) With Taps being played in the background, patriotic Deb Wilkie brought up a constituents question about flame-retardant flag outside Baxter and if it is being properly folded, raised and lowered and such. Baxter and B+G to be contacted, and my grandfather, flag-man extraordinarre. V.Group Recommendations: (A)The Japanese club, called Tottoro (not actually named after that Native American sidekick dog belonging to Kansas resident Dorothy, by the way, (sorry, but this is needs to be put to rest) you know the rumor about the Munchkin committing suicide in the background in the Wiz of Oz, well I looked up the Oz Homepage and I quote "this is false; the object in question is a strange looking bird." Go there yourself to become a believer. Even still I plan on telling that one to frosh and my little cousins. Turns out the "tornado" was also fake, done with a thirty-five foot long muslin stocking (was there a Mrs.Andre the Giant?) and miniatures of Kansas farm and fields. I was devastated.) Actually Tottoro comes from a Jap. cartoon character according to founder Siezo. They were rec. 22-0-0. (B) Psalm 96, a splinter group from Christian Fellowship, was rec. 21 0-1. (C) Gorgias, pronounced "gorgeous" is a quarterly journal of "ideas, scholarship and culture," not of Elizabeth Hurley '93 and Brad Pitt '89. It was successfullu rec. at 21-0-1. VI.Cte Reports:(A)InfoTech member Sheraz Clamchowder said printer may come with new email terminals in Baxter. S.C. said Coltrain is slow. We questioned whether it really was, or it was more a problem with the overworked hamsters that power those large Unix computers. It takes six healthy hamsters twenty seconds at full kilter to open my inbox. S.C. said they are looking into shutting the server down regularly to increase it's speed. After a few comments that shutting down the server already was not exactly a new concept, CC then admitted being too harsh and honestly does applaud the efforts to use limited cash flow to make a very picky campus happy. To the idea of a better Colrain CC gave standing ovation. Apparently, good techs only work 9-5 so shutting down at 3 am on Friday would result in more problems due to perhaps sleepy and belligerent pizza-man turned-technicians so it may have to happen regularly at some early (by Bell standards...10ish) hours. Also, the 3rd floor Jesup will become home to more and faster computers (not exactly recompense for stealing our (my favorite room in the joint) Aquarium) ?s: EMAIL 00sac (B)CUL (Cte Undergrad. Life) and Paul Friedmann has no idea what it they are supposed to do. Going to work on better awareness of $13,000 it has to burn, nature of life (social to religious) and handling Mission Impossible (turning that concrete bird into a pleasure palace...more than just Sketch Night at Armstrong) are on their plate. ?s EMAIL: 00pjf (C)Bookstore Cte: Matt Whalin reports nothing, since they have yet to meet. Bell is all for bringing the B-store to the Street (Spring), bringing prices down by getting Profs on the ball, get food going on (Kenyon Bookstore being the standard) and comfortable environs/seating. Doubting Club doubted themselves and lost 80% alone. WCF lost 67% by divesting in Philip Morris (jest). Reason cut, says Mike D., since asked for more than estimated, though no Pope requests this year helped a bit. So proposed to add $2000 and pass budget. Passed 19-0-5. D.A. funding, which is pretty bare-bones when you consider year-long salaries, was passed ($6000) 22 0-2. CC operating budget ($3000) for a long itemized list of goodies was passed ($3000) 21-1-2. A long and heartily fought SAC budget addition was discussed. See you constituents for great details. Bottom line: Trustees allowed Student Activities Tax raise if half went to SAC. So while seemingly early to give SAC 10k, it was earmarked for them so despite the unfortunate widespread budget cuts, it was (1) in our best interest with regards to our ties/credibility with the BOT and (2) SAC with a 3-day Currier gig that sells out in 25 min, beer at Log and Real-Deal Movies proven them self thus far. Though solid input from interested student group leaders made the point they are barely funded above (if that) water and will be back... the SAC allocation still passed 15-4-2. VIII.AIDS: Drew huge responses to all Reps. All say free tests
should go on. Amanda hopes the Health Center will pick up cost ($5000)
