When Mr. Michael Elbody Darowish started singing a little falsetto "Sexual Healing," Mr. Christopher Soupdonkey Bell got up on the table and did the Wild Payne. Checking their watches, they realized the CC meeting was but ten minutes off, so they paid the check at Pappa Charlies and headed for Griffin 4. Actually, the Council began festivities at Susie Hopkins where Grandma Darowish manifested in Mike with her famous "Fairly Fattening Fried Rice", feeding four flummoxed frosh. While we all loved it, afterwards, I flushed twice. Upon arrival in our new digs one floor up, Harman and Cowley charged the atmosphere with Halloween spirit by passing out those much-loved Reese's Sugared Beets and Nestle's Carob Surprise. On with the meeting: I.Cte Reports: A)CPR: Mike Barkin (00mzb) reported to us from the Cte on Priorities and Resources. CPR looks at capital planning for the College decades in advance, like renovating classrooms (Ol' Griffin of Yore became G-Fox 2000) and dorm rooms (like Bell's frosh room in old Sage F, a double crafted from a fairly spacious broom closet is now the second home to Jeeves, the Sage F doorman). Cookies and Cream Cowley suggested a campus-wide implementation of the magnetic fire doors; Heavenly-Hash Harman pointed out the worn-out treads of Sawyer and Rocky Road Ryan (Carrie) proffered a investigation in updating/renovating the weight room. Barkin emphasized he does not have the magic (Payne/Trustees) wand, but nonetheless is open to emails to this end. Along a similar line, if you are still hoping to email Fara Nabavi about the Spencer/West renovations, try 98fn instead of 99fn, as he moved up a year upon using a few APs and two Boy Scout merit badges. II.Opinions: Kate Ervin reported only two Opinions for the week. 1. Someone wished to have their Financial Records on-line. 2. A request for another server, claiming that.....Colrain.....that......it.........was......somehow....... very..........slow. Liz Lee '01 who looked into getting the "broken dial tone," which would indicate you had voicemail, learned that it's a $12,000 option we opted not to get. The reasoning included the logic that most students only check their voicemail from afar (Harman then made his move to the phone to do his regular check). Though since Williams-friendly AT+T ate up the voicemail company, Octel, we may be able to get a better price and if CC were to throw some weight behind it, money may become available to do this for next year. Also Lee discovered that finding out your phone bill, due to the exhaustive password nature of our accounts, cannot be viewed on-line. Brian Connors brought up the Chalkboard again, since there were issues here but it currently believed that even if the board is a no go outside Baxter, we will find a home for it (CC Office). David Walfish looked at ice machines in Mission and cost/energy-consumption was the major issue, with a secondary issue was that ice tends to find a home cooling kegs, according to Housing Guru McEvoy. But further investigation will proceed with Hodgkins. In other news, Bell has asked the SuperNectars sample table to move into his room. III.Budgets: A.WSO came to us, specifically Matt Garland, and requested $4000 to purchase a server which could handle 3.5 times more stuff than the current set-up. Matt pointed out usage has increased from 302 to 806 users (since the advent of the current server), a doubling of the number of listservers and the current 30 second wait to open your homepage. Ben Finholt points out this is eternity, as homepages go. On the other hand, a 30-sec wait for Colrain would be cause for Jesup to bust out the faux-champagne and celebrate. The system they are looking to buy would run between $4800-6500. A barrage of questions followed, some recommending alt. sources of funding like admissions, users, and courses like CompSci 105 which uses it for homepages. Deb Wilkie mentioned how this is really an expensive hobby that the college should pick up, considering the TLC WSO already gives. Sam Abelson proposed it be tabled until new Matt checks other sources. It passed 26-0-1. IV.Member's Open TIme: Jeremy Rothe-Kushel hopes to bring CC sponsored debates involving strictly students and faculty and, per Amanda's suggestion, will talk with Gargoyle. Patty Brady is making strides on having the OCC open as a reading room from 7-9pm at night. David La spoke to MASS PIRGS events this week including a series on Endangered Species. There will be a eulogy today for those species we have lost, and dressing in black is encouraged. Keep the 20th of November open, as it is a Mass Pirg a capella benefit concert including 'Za, 'Tet and 'Streeters thus far. Kate pushed the Log. Darowish solicited names for a Stutax Increase Cte. Cowman jointly brought forward the Forest Gump Proposal to honor one Faculty/Admin and one Staff. Bell, having not played Air Hockey since he was a wee lad where he learned using the left shoe from a beat up pair of Reebok Pumps and a stale Boca burger, moved to adjourn to the Log. He did and due to extensive play, was not is taking a week sabbatical from the back page piece he usually does. Off to bed. Immobell. |
