For School…
- Learn to type if you can't already.
- Ask around concerning which professors are the best.
- Your major should be something that you are interested in and not just something that is lucrative.
- Just because you were the big dog in high school doesn't mean you still are in college.
- Learn the difference between studying and cramming.
- Take fall classes in the late morning to afternoon and spring classes in the early morning before noon.
For Life…
- Bring your own hair products. Spring Street does not sell items that cater to minority hair.
- Williams does not have BET but we are working on it.
- Do not come to school anxious to find the love of your life. It's Williams, not the Love Boat.
- Only Sprint and Verizon cell phones work here.
For you…
- Include yourself in more than "typical minority" extracurricular activities such as Frosh Council, ACE committees, sports teams, College Council, etc.
- If you suffer from sinus or allergy related problems, bring medication. It is essential when things begin to sprout and nature is in full bloom.
- Try your hardest to get along with your room mate. It makes life a lot easier.
- Find one person with whom you can talk about anything. You will need him/her.
- Nobody is going to lead you around and tell you what to do. You need to do it for yourself.
- Have patience with yourself and others.
- Get rest as much as you can without sacrificing your work.
- You have to maintain good conduct at all times. You never know who is reading and rating your future opportunities.
- Learn to speak for yourself. Williams is full of strong-minded people who will be heard. Don't let your opinion fall short.
- Choose your friends wisely.
- Have a social life; it is key to staying sane at Williams.
- Shower shoes- some people just weren't brought up to be as clean as you think they should be.
- Keep five dollars on you at all times. You never know when you will need it.
- Make Wal-Mart your best friend.
- Set aside some personal down time to collect yourself and your thoughts.
