Notes from the Governance Board meeting on November 1st

One Republic: Dodd has not given money. Wood gave 2k. Spencer hasn’t decided.
If we give them money we want to split the tent with them for Spring Fling and also have some number of tickets reserved for Currier.
The money would come out of our spring budget so we would just have to budget around it.
We will be giving 1k.
We need to do a better job of fostering community in the neighborhood.

Everything is ordered for the homecoming breakfast.

We need a black light for the Wood party and we also need to start advertising the party.

Neighborhood Dinner: Latin theme. We should work with VISTA to determine the menu and to get some music in there.

We’re working together to illuminate World Aids Day on Nov. 30th.
Kirby’s band is playing for 2 hours- 900 dollars.
Dining services- 600 dollars.
Deciding between the Log, Currier, and Spencer House.
Shooting for 200 people.
dj from 10-11, the band until 12 and then the dj until 1 or something along those lines.
We would like it to be in the Log or in Currier rather than Spencer.
Main goal is to raise awareness rather than money. Bring AIDS awareness back home. Information between songs and the like. Collecting donations at the door for a local AIDS foundation that has yet to be decided.
We need to figure out all the host and server issues. Remington’s on that.
Otherwise the health group is pretty much on top of everything.

We’re using Gordo’s van for homecoming. Maybe we can set up a karaoke lounge in the back of the van if we have outlets to get electricity.

Notes from the Governance Board meeting on October 18th

We’re having problems getting the freshmen to come to the neighborhood dinners and other neighborhood events.
We’re going to split up and go to the entries this Sunday to introduce ourselves and tell them about upcoming events. Snacks are at 10. Make sure to encourage everybody to come to the neighborhood dinners and hopefully bring along a prof.
Towel situation is a little up in the air.
Our “ice cream” social is Nov. 29th. We can make it brownies or apple pie and pizza. It will be a meal replacement. (My responsibility).
Homecoming: We’re responsible for purchasing the food for the non-alcoholic event in Paresky.
We also have to get food for our Homecoming breakfast (Emily and EB)
We need to find our Andre and avoid buying more alcohol.
Scott is taking the lead on the tailgate.
We’re going to provide minimal alcohol at the breakfast so that it’s a legal unregistered social gathering.

We’re going to bus kids from here to Café Latino on Halloween for a dance party.
Neighborhood is dinner Oct. 28th. Theme: Start with delicious Korean Beef and go from there.
Homecoming: Send information to advertisers ASAP. Hopefully we can use Gordon’s minivan.
All of our events are on Saturday:
Breakfast is 10am-12.
Tailgate is 1-4.
Party is 10pm-2 in Wood.
Royal Monaco Sporting Lounge and Spa: 8pm-12 with Casino Royale from 10-12
These last two events are concurrent; one with and one without alcohol.

A New Day Has Dawned

So I'm not sure if or how this is going to work but I figured I'd give it the old college try. After all, I did sign up to be the neighborhood historian.

We've got a great governance board this year and we want to make sure that everybody has fun and keeps it classy.

If you are in fact reading this it means that you're one of the very few people who actually know about/ read the Currier Neighborhood web page, and that makes you very very special. On that note, give yourselves a pat on the back and go back to doing your homework as that's all for now. More updates will come later. I promise.

Apply to be a Currier Baxter Fellow for the 2007-2008 school year!!


New for the 2007-2008 academic year, Currier will be hiring seven Baxter Fellows! The purpose of the Baxter Fellow program is to have students in each house whose primary role is to foster a sense of community within the Neighborhood and within the individual houses which comprise the Neighborhood in collaboration with their Neighborhood Governance Board (NGB). This is accomplished through local house responsibilities, as well as through involvement with neighborhood-wide activities that address several community-development areas. Baxter Fellows should be creative, flexible, and motivated students who are excited about being involved in their neighborhood community on many levels-from building smaller communities in their houses, to planning large-scale events for the neighborhood.
