What Sets GQ Apart
Most groups on campus have a standard repetoire of songs they've done for a long time. They'll only do two or three new songs each semester, and the direction of the group is set by only one or two people at the top.
GQ is different.
At the beginning of each year, we hold a meeting where every member of the group presents a song they'd like to solo on. If people like it, we do it! This is good for three reasons:
- GQ does a bunch of new songs every semester.
- People get to solo on songs that they actually like and sound good on, so each voice gets a chance to be featured.
- We get a way bigger range of musical styles than if just one or two people were setting the musical agenda of the group. Instead of being stuck with the same top-40 songs, GQ does a wild range of music from Christina Aguilera, Chamillionaire, Frank Sinatra, Belle & Sebastian, the Dandy Warhols, Queen, Radiohead, Elton John, Da Vinci's Notebook, No Doubt, The Postal Service, Gavin DeGraw, Gloria Estefan, Counting Crows, Weird Al Yankovic, Herman's Hermits, Bryan Adams, Tom Cooke, Maroon 5, Gershwin, Paul Simon, WHAM!, Sondheim, The Beatles, Of Montreal....you get the idea.
