Catholic Worship

The liturgy is the working of the Holy Trinity and the public worship of the Church. The liturgy mediates the grace of Jesus Christ won through the Paschal Mystery. As Catholics we are called to participate fully in the sacramental life of the Church. This obliges us to attend the holy sacrifice of the Mass on Sundays and other Holy Days. Through the Sacrament of the Eucharist we truly receive the Body and Blood of Christ under the appearance of bread and wine (transubstantiation). Thus, the Eucharist is the source and summit of Christian life. By participating in the sacrifice of the Mass we are united with Christ and in Him with believers everywhere and at all times. There are seven Sacraments in the sacramental economy: those of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist), those at the service of communion (Holy Orders, Matrimony), and those of healing (Penance and Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick).
