"You are the salt of the earth... You are the light of the world."
- Matt 5:13-14
Praised be Jesus Christ! Catholic life at Williams is vibrant and growing. Approximately 450 students at Williams, or about 23% of the student body, self-identify as Catholic. Williams Catholic, the college’s Catholic campus ministry, is led by a group of student servant leaders united under our chaplain, Dr. Peter Feudo, Jr., SFO. In fidelity to our local bishop, Most Rev. Timothy A. McDonnell of Springfield, MA, we are the living extension at Williams of the Church Jesus Christ founded 2,000 years ago. In addition to serving the students of the college, our community includes the many Catholic alumni, parents and faculty, past and present.
Our ministry on campus is enriched by the presence of the local Catholic parish of Sts. Patrick and Raphael. Our space on campus, the John Henry Cardinal Newman Center, is located in the basement of Thompson Memorial Chapel and consists of two rooms and a beautiful chapel with a capacity of 20.
The Cardinal Newman Center is the base of many Williams Catholic activities. Our community offers many opportunities to grow in one’s relationship with Christ through daily Angelus, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and nightly Rosary. Blessed with the Real Presence of Christ in our chapel tabernacle, we also make available weekly Adoration of the Holy Eucharist on Fridays and Mass with guest priests on other evenings during the week. Our Sunday student Mass, in St. Patrick Church, draws significant student participation as the highlight of the liturgical week. Catholics at Williams are also members of the local parish whose sacramental life includes daily Mass, three other weekend Masses, and the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Penance. Additionally, the presence of guest priests and religious serves to foster vocations and periodic retreats supply a much-needed respite from college life.
With little to no curricular opportunities at the college to grow in faith understanding, we cultivate intellectual understanding and deepening of one’s faith by presenting lectures with prominent Catholic public intellectuals, scholars, and Churchmen, Scripture study, an RCIA program, & other catechetical initiatives. We strive to put our faith into action through service opportunities and two major service trips per year.
In a campus environment that often challenges a life of faith, we are a growing community of Catholics seeking to live the fullness of our rich tradition.
"If you are what you should be, you will set the whole world ablaze!"
