Notes from Dave Letzler

For Hour 6, four songs stumped everyone: Souljaboy's "Late Night Calls" (unsurprising, since I think it only appears on mixtapes); Amy Winehouse's "Just Friends" (unsurprising, given that it comes at the end of a not-huge-hit song); Clarence Carter's "Backdoor Santa" (ah well); and Sufjan Stevens' "Come on! Feel the Illinoise!" (a bit saddening for me, but whatever). Just for the Halibut kept that number low by sweeping the jazz that stumped everyone else, namely Maynard Ferguson's cover of "MacArthur Park," Benny Goodman's "King Porter Stomp," and Mingus' "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat." I was impressed that so many people hit the very ordinary-sounding clip from "YMCA," the band arrangement from the end of "Online," and the instrumental break of "Dance to the Music"; I also felt somewhat vindicated that somebody got Desi Arnaz's "Cuban Pete," even if they had to Google for that. Two most common wrong answers--a variety of other songs from Graceland for "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes" and mistaking Kool and the Gang for KC and the Sunshine Band.
