Key tracks: ?No Smoke,? ?Dark Into Light,? ?Untouchable.? *The Heart of Infinite Change* Natasha Agrama Los Angeles is running jazz right now, and vocalist Natasha Agrama is at the forefront of this new wave. The Heart of Infinite Change is her latest offering, and it?s stunning. Key tracks: ?Goodbye Porkpie Hat,? ?In A Sentimental Mood,? ?The Ballad of the Sad Young Men.? *Science Fiction* Brand New The emo revival has begun, whether you like it or not. Brand New has always approached emo with an emotional and thematic nuance unlike their contemporaries, and it?s in full force on their latest album Science Fiction. Just some reminders about reviewing music: If you see you have music, please review it and get it back to the station in a timely manner (like under two weeks would be flawless). A quick blurb on the sticker listing the genre, your rating (you can get creative on how you rate it), and maybe a song you like. When you bring the CDs back, place them on the grey shelves in the broadcasting room. These shelves look a lot like this: [image: Inline image 1] Last thing. If you have a co-host who isn't a certified DJ but is listed on the site, it's pretty likely I also gave them music to review. Do me a favor and pass this info on to them. Send me your best stuff: mps5 at williams.edu SHOW OF THE WEEK BIBIMBANGERS ~ with DJ Baby Driver SATURDAYS @ 8-10 PM GENRE: Rap, Indie, Pop Lylia Li There's bangers, and then there's bibimbangers. What's a bibimbanger? I'm not entirely sure, but I know that Lylia plays nothing but them. Example: "Rigarmortus," by Kendrick Lamar. Let's be honest, Kendrick on his last verse sounds like he ate the spiciest bibimbap of all time. Lylia also spun "See You Again" by Tyler, The Creator, a song that really encompasses the bibimbap flavor profile - that dreamy chorus is like the gooey fried egg, but then the bass hits like the scorching chili paste. That analogy was bad, but Lylia's show isn't. Tune in! FEATURED MUSIC Freudian Daniel Caesar A Toronto crooner who doesn't resort to the cookie-cutter moody synths and trap drums of the OVO sound? Count me in. Everything about Daniel Caesar is refreshing, from his silky, yet powerful vocals to the gospel and choral influences that pervade his music. Freudian plays like your favorite 90s R&B record but feels like something totally new. Key tracks: "Get You (feat. Kali Uchis)," "Best Part (feat H.E.R.)," "Hold Me Down." ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ Sudan Archives Sudan Archives Singer-songwriter/violinist Sudan Archives is the latest signee to the legendary Stones Throw Records (home to Madlib, Mayor Hawthorne, Aloe Blacc, Madvillain, etc) and her self-titled debut adds to the label's list of quirky, amazing releases. Armed with a sampler, a violin, and stylistic influences from across North and West Africa, Sudan Archives crafted some of the most banging avant-garde songs of the year. Key tracks: "Oatmeal," "Come Meh Way," "Paid." ------------------------------------------------------------ Brick Body Kids Still Daydream Open Mike Eagle Open Mike Eagle might be the smartest rapper in the game. He also might have the biggest heart. His new album Brick Body Kids Still Daydream is an ode to Chicago's Robert Taylor Homes, a public housing project that was destroyed in 2007. Eagle's talent is his control of language and voice, and over a variety of scattered soundbeds, he sounds sharper than ever. Key tracks: "95 Radios (feat. SHOW OF THE WEEK MILK MEN IN THE PM ~ with DJ Dulce de Leche & DJ Tres Leches FRIDAYS @ 9-10 PM GENRE: Alternative, Hip-Hop/Rap, Indie, Bongo Solos Pierceson Joseph Brown & Marshall Borus WCFM absurdism might've reached its peak with this one. On the station website, Pierceson and Marshall tempt the unassuming web surfer: "Interested in songs and discussions about caramelized desserts, creamy confections, or sweetened condensed milk? Well, you came to the right place, we just like the sound of those things." All I'm thinking about right now is that plopping sound you can make when you slap a spoon against the top of a freshly-opened container of Skyr. Pierceson and Marshall like U2, The Orb, Boyz II Men, and Taylor Swift. If you're not sure where those artists fit on the dairy spectrum, you'll have to tune in to find out. FEATURED MUSIC Laila's Wisdom Rapsody The sole guest verse on Kendrick Lamar's frantic opus To Pimp A Butterfly goes to the low-profile Rapsody. And for good reason. The North Carolina MC infuses socially-conscious bars with perfect doses of braggadocio, emotional nuance, and wordplay. It's on full display on her sophomore release Laila's Wisdom. The legendary 9th Wonder handles the bulk of production, making the album sound straight out of 2005 in the best way possible. Key tracks - "Power (feat. Kendrick Lamar & Lance Skiiwalker), "Nobody (feat. Anderson .Paak, Black Thought & Moonchild)." ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ Aromanticism Moses Sumney Moses Sumney's falsetto doesn't warrant description. It's just really really really beautiful. The LA crooner, who's received high-profile endorsements from fellow enigmas Solange, Sufjan Stevens, and James Blake, just dropped his debut album Aromanticism and its beauty is devastating. Spacey soul/R&B that hits basically every emotion and probably creates new ones too. Key tracks - "Doomed," "Plastic," "Quarrel." ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ Painted Ruins Grizzly Bear The music blog favorite Grizzly Bear is back after a five year hiatus. Almost none of their former indie contemporaries are relevant anymore. Ed Droste and company don't seem to care - they're still making weird, uncategorizable songs. Incorporating an eclectic mix of pulsating synths, baroque strings, and indie guitar stylings, the music feels like a product of 2017. So does the recording process. According to a recent Noisey interview, the band members collaboratively recorded entire sections of the album through file-sharing on Dropbox.
