Esketit fellow DJs,

To ring in the new school year, a bunch of you have some fresh music in
your SU boxes. You can check out all the new music we've received and your
assigned music at this spreadsheet

Also included on this spreadsheet are tracks recommended by the label.

Just some reminders about reviewing music:
If you see you have music, please review it and get it back to the station
in a timely manner (like under two weeks would be flawless).
A quick blurb on the sticker listing the genre, your rating (you can get
creative on how you rate it), and maybe a song you like.
When you bring the CDs back, place them on the grey shelves in the
broadcasting room. These shelves look a lot like this:

Last thing. If you have a co-host who isn't a certified DJ but is listed on
the site, it's pretty likely I also gave them music to review. Do me a
favor and pass this info on to them. Let me know if ya have any questions.

Let's be honest, Kendrick on his last verse sounds like he ate the spiciest bibimbap of all time. Lylia also spun "See You Again" by Tyler, The Creator, a song that really encompasses the bibimbap flavor profile - that dreamy chorus is like the gooey fried egg, but then the bass hits like the scorching chili paste. WCFM absurdism might've reached its peak with this one. On the station website, Pierceson and Marshall tempt the unassuming web surfer: "Interested in songs and discussions about caramelized desserts, creamy confections, or sweetened condensed milk? Well, you came to the right place, we just like the sound of those things." All I'm thinking about right now is that plopping sound you can make when you slap a spoon against the top of a freshly-opened container of Skyr. Pierceson and Marshall like U2, The Orb, Boyz II Men, and Taylor Swift. If you're not sure where those artists fit on the dairy spectrum, you'll have to tune in to find out.

The sole guest verse on Kendrick Lamar's frantic opus To Pimp A Butterfly goes to the low-profile Rapsody. And for good reason. The North Carolina MC infuses socially-conscious bars with perfect doses of braggadocio, emotional nuance, and wordplay. It's on full display on her sophomore release Laila's Wisdom. The legendary 9th Wonder handles the bulk of production, making the album sound straight out of 2005 in the best way possible. Key tracks - "Power (feat. Kendrick Lamar & Lance Skiiwalker), "Nobody (feat. Anderson .Paak, Black Thought & Moonchild)."

Aromanticism
Moses Sumney
Moses Sumney's falsetto doesn't warrant description. It's just really really really beautiful. The LA crooner, who's received high-profile endorsements from fellow enigmas Solange, Sufjan Stevens, and James Blake, just dropped his debut album Aromanticism and its beauty is devastating. Spacey soul/R&B that hits basically every emotion and probably creates new ones too. Key tracks - "Doomed," "Plastic," "Quarrel."

Painted Ruins
Grizzly Bear
The music blog favorite Grizzly Bear is back after a five year hiatus. Almost none of their former indie contemporaries are relevant anymore.  Ed Droste and company don't seem to care - they're still making weird, uncategorizable songs. Incorporating an eclectic mix of pulsating synths, baroque strings, and indie guitar stylings, the music feels like a product of 2017. So does the recording process. According to a recent Noisey interview, the band members collaboratively recorded entire sections of the album through file-sharing on Dropbox. Grizzly Bear doesn't sound the same, but what did they ever sound like? Key tracks - "Three Rings," "Mourning Sound," "Glass Hillside."
