*SHOW OF THE WEEK*

JULIAN'S MEDLEY WITH A SIDE OF ZIEV SAUCE ©
*Thursdays @ 3-4 PM*

*GENRE: Everything*
*Ziev and Julian Smedley*
Julian (DJ name “Chef Curry” still pending) and Ziev are offering up a
fresh dish with a secret sauce: “We’re gonna give listeners a little taste
of everything,” Ziev says. Their medley is expected to feature a ton of
flavors. The show will debut the duo’s hottest takes, perhaps in a
Pitchfork Over/Under-esque fashion. Sports, politics, and philosophy will
all be mixed in, with, of course, some music sprinkled on top. Taste
Julian’s Medley with a Side of Ziev Sauce every Thursday at 3pm on WCFM
91.9!
*FEATURED MUSIC*
*Durand Jones & the Indications*
Dead Oceans

Durand Jones and his band are definitely channing the groovy currents of
classic soul legends like Charles Bradley, Otis Redding, and James Brown.
In this album, there is something absolutely exciting and modern infusion
of garage rock into this band’s unique sound. The compelling, emotional
lyrics professing the simple depths and pain of love connect us to classic
soul acts of the past century and their sheer emotional power. The airy,
slightly lo-fi guitar harmonies in dialogue with an intelligent, soft horn
section and gritty keyboard solos beautifully merge this classic soul with
modern low-fi garage rock acts like Mac Demarco and Car Seat Headrest. Not
only is this an album to sing and dance to, but it offers an almost
historical narrative of influence and emotion, leading us to this current
moment in music, something both infinitely familiar and brand new.
*Mt. Joy*
Mt. Joy

Two years after their first single, the LA-via-Philly homegrown band has
finally released their self-titled album. The whole album is dominated by
plucky, looping backbones, reminiscent of Young the Giant or Andrew Bird.
Besides the compelling and warm melodies, Mt. Joy uses the album to count
its blessings—something that most bands don't do until their third or
fourth album. Tracks like "Silver Lining" showcase the young band's
unbridled optimism. Others like "Astrovan" combine religious and
counter-culture iconography to harken back to the time when love ruled.
The gentle, swinging piano tunes draw you into the embrace of Matt Quinn's
raw and untrained vocals. The album is a personal outpouring of deep
gratification and sincere love of making music. Adding over forty tour
dates, Mt. Joy's concerts are sure to be full of appreciation, gratitude,
and love.
