I sort through all the new music that the station gets, and because we get so much of it each week, we want to make sure that you all have easy access to it. We set up a CD rack in the station's business office that we will be filling up with new music as it comes in. Please feel free to use the CD and record players in the office to listen to anything that we get (or your own music)! We are also compiling a lot of this music into one big playlist which we will send out in the near future. Let me know if you have any questions or ideas on how we can share new music! -Thomas -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... These short feature stories are a good way to find new shows and hear about what your fellow DJs are up to. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Amid the dim studio and warm fairy lights, Frank Ocean?s ?Forrest Gump? plays as Carolyn Kim ?22, Olive White ?22, and Cindy Wang ?20 settle into their show Wednesday Night Interlude. The three sing along as they discuss Channel Orange, Blonde, and their obsession with ?Self Control.? The Interlude doesn?t conform to any particular genre ? it jumps from Neo-R&B to Hip Hop to Bedroom Pop in the hour-long segment. ?No offense, it?s so much better,? Wang says as she play Daniel Caesar?s ?Streetcar,? referencing its cover of Kanye?s ?Streetlights.? Wang then goes on to describe how the song reminds her of Schow Library, an unconventional yet understandable connection. White and Kim bounce back with their negative opinions of Schow and subsequent affinity for Sawyer ? a good choice indeed. This is the general feel of the show. It?s a relaxing atmosphere adorned with smooth instrumentals, lo-fi vocals, and references to other music. At one point, all three rise from their chairs to perform their rehearsed dance to ?Thotiana? by Blue Face. White even goes as far to say that they might ?bring out the dance this weekend (presumably at Hoxsey).? >From sitting in on one show, you can feel the closeness between the DJs. They bounce opinions off one another while occasionally speaking into the mics to introduce new songs or the stories behind them. Wednesday Night Interlude?s DJs all admit to having similar music taste but have their own ?corners? of taste that they inhabit. Tune in to Wednesday Night Interlude on humpdays at 10 p.m. if you want to hear chill tracks and friendly banter. Anyway, my name is Phillip Pyle, I'm a First-Year from Kansas and one of three News and PR Directors. I will be at many WCFM events and shows taking photos and videos for social media platforms and the weekly newsletter, which should be starting up soon? Some ideas I have for the next year for WCFM are: - Weekly album reviews (new albums) - Vlogs/video album reviews (listening reactions?) - Album listening parties on Friday nights after new albums are released - Lots of concerts My own music taste is sporadic but I thought I'd list a few of my favorite artists: SOPHIE, Toro y Moi, Arca, Kelela, Smino, Yves Tumor, Blood Orange, Noname, Moses Sumney, Yaeji, Grimes, Snail Mail, Jamila Woods, Frank Ocean, Vampire Weekend, etc, etc. I'm planning on having a show this spring called "The Avant-Garde Farmer," which is a play on my Kansas roots and the fact that I own a farm permit driver's license. I'm really excited for this year and working with you all :) Phil -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: <08E86A29-6C19-430F-AF9D-190B75EB9BB2@williams.edu> Hey DJs!! Exciting news! For the past few months, I?ve been working on building an iOS app for the radio station. Like many of you probably do, I got tired of sending out the listening link every week to friends/family who wanted to tune in. The WCFM app provides listeners with a convenient platform for streaming WCFM 91.9 live from their phones. It also allows users to access the radio show schedule, subscribe to their favorite radio shows, and receive alerts when those shows are live! Hopefully, this will be a great way to boost listenership and spread word of WCFM on campus. To download the app, go to the Apple App Store, and search for ?WCFM." (The first time you open it, it?ll take a few seconds to load the schedule.) It?s not perfect and there are some bugs, but I?m super excited to have people download it. Be sure to tell your friends and family too! P.S. We will tabling in Paresky tomorrow during lunch to give out some stickers and have sign-ups for new radio shows. So if you know of some friends that would like to host their own show, tell them to stop by!
