Hello,
to our dear ballroom returners and to all you new folks,

Welcome back! And welcome to ballroom! I'm including you on this list
either because you signed up for our free university workshop, Learn to
Ballroom Dance, or because you were already on the listserv. Thank you for
signing up! We're really looking forward to all the dancing we'll be doing
together this winter study.

We'll be kicking off the month with a lesson this *Tuesday evening*, with
time and location to be determined (our usual meeting spot is Currier
Ballroom, we just need to confirm the room). We'll be doing a different
dance each time, from salsa to swing to tango and more! For this first
class we'll be teaching the basics of East Coast Swing. Our next class will
be this Thursday, same time and place.

In general, this Winter Study we'll be meeting Tuesday and Thursday
evenings. If you can't make a workshop, don't worry about it. Ballroom is a
low-pressure, low-commitment kind of thing. We just want you to have fun.
And please, feel free to invite your friends to any and all of the classes!
We don't have a limit on how many people show up, so the more the merrier.
Plus, if you know someone who meant to sign up for the list and didn't,
just send us an email or tell them to contact me, Lily Gordon (lag4) or
Emma Levy (esl1).

Hi all,

Just wanted to let you all know about a really exciting event
happening *tomorrow
night* here in Williamstown! North Berkshire Dance is holding a
*contradance* at the *Williamstown preschool* (at the intersection of Route
2 and Water St) from *7:30-10:30pm*. Contradancing is really easy and fun
to learn, so don?t worry if you?ve never done it before ? it?s very
beginner-friendly! There will be live music, a live caller, and a potluck
with snacks. Bring friends and come when you can!

New moves and new music ...
>From an Irish reel, you may hear the fiddle veer cheerfully into
ragtime or *Five
Foot Two, Eyes of Blue. *On Saturday, *January 11,*  Paul Rosenberg will
lead our first dance of the new year from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the
Williamstown Community Preschool.

If you love dancing and want to share the joy with friends and family, this
one is a good place to start. Paul loves helping newcomers discover
dancing. He is one of the founders of the Dance Flurry in Saratoga Springs,
N.Y., and has called at festivals throughout the Northeast, but he says he
was afraid of dancing until he found contra in his 30s. He has many years'
experience getting people on their feet and making things fun from the
start, without long walkthroughs. He will open with gentler dances
and build towards high energy dances as the evening goes on.

Three North Adams musicians known across New England will perform  live ?
Eric Buddington on fiddle and Tony Pisano on accordion, both members of the
band Coincidance, will join Todd Reynolds, violinist for Steve Reich,
Meredith Monk and Bang on a Can. They'll perform traditional and original
music and spice our New England hornpipes with other flavors, including
popular tunes from the 1920s and 1930s.

Contra dancing has friendliness built in ? everyone dances with everyone
else. You can bring a partner or come alone and join in.

NBCD will also hold a snack potluck halfway through the dance, and everyone
is welcome. (The school is a no-nuts zone, but dancers may bring cookies,
cheese and crackers, apples, popcorn ?)

Dances are second Saturdays monthly. Admission is $12, or $5 for students

Hey guys,

Thanks for all your energy and engagement so far this winter study. It has
been so much fun dancing with y'all. We hope you're enjoying ballroom, and
please feel free to send us/tell us any feedback you have about the group
(what's been working for you, what's not, how the time works for you). If
you'd like to be added to the ballroom groupme, please email me your
number.

So, for Thursday, we're actually going to be switching back to 7-8pm. I'm
sorry for all the time shifts. We are trying to accommodate many people's
schedules, and we've heard from some people who can't make it at 6pm, so we
decided to go back to starting at 7. And this is probably what it will be
for the rest of winter study. So please join us tomorrow in *Currier at 7 *for

I?m forwarding you a cool dancing opportunity shared with me by a friend from class, Rose. It?s a burlesque show!! See the forwarded email, and reach out to Rose/fill out the interest form if you?re into it!! 

Also, another thing that might be of interest: tonight from 6-7 right before ballroom, in Currier Ballroom, Tracy Hu, a Williams alum who is super cool and teaching my winter study class on movement/creativity/embodiment, is offering an hour-long workshop. Here?s the description she gave: 

?Basically for the hour, we'll do some simple exercises to become more aware of the breath and body, talk about the science/physiology behind breathing and breath-holding, and how this is linked to meditation and healing.  If you?ve found it difficult to meditate in the past, this might help you see it in a different light.  Dress comfortably and warmly, and bring a blanket if it's handy!?

And then join us for bachata from 7-8 afterward!!

Hey guys,

Just wanted to let you know in advance about this upcoming week of ballroom
because it's a little different. First, we'll be having our *last lesson of
Winter Study on Tuesday, 7-8pm in Currier Ballroom*. We'll be teaching
hustle.

Next, please join us *Wednesday night *in *Goodrich *from *9-11pm* for
our *end-of-winter-study
dance party*! We'll be putting on all the music styles we danced to this
past month and social dancing! Don't worry if you don't remember
some dances, or didn't make it to all the lessons. You can dance as much or
as little as you want, and make it up as you go! Emma and I will also be
able to give you tips if you want. Dress up if you feel like it!

Thursday we won't have a lesson, because we're heading out a little early
for dead week. But ballroom isn't going away! Tune back in this spring for
more :)

Unfortunately, we are cancelling tonight's ballroom party. We had some
complications booking the space. Plus, Lily is still sick, as are some of
you probably. Sorry about that!! We might reschedule for after dead week-
we'll keep you posted.

Otherwise, thank you for all those who showed up for our free university
this winter study! It was a lot of fun!! I hope all you folks who gave it a
try for the first time keep joining us in the spring. We typically meet
once every week and have an hour-long lesson like the ones we did this
