Current Projects

This document describes the projects WSO is currently developing or planning.

• Fix the ‘s.
• Expand documentation of services.

• vCard and other export formats.

There are still some legacy PageKit services that would really do much better running on Rails and integrated with the newer parts of the site. These are:

• Organizations (already killed as a PageKit service and started on Rails, but not finished) – This should have plenty of automation to ensure that the data don’t go out of date. If orgs forget to update, they disappear instead (until they update). It would also be really cool (if difficult) to tie in management of org websites and email lists with this.
• Factrak – some strange bugs that we’ve never been able to track down. None of us likes perl now...
• Jobs, RideBoard – these should be pretty straightforward

Having all these services on Rails will allow us to give each web user a sort of dashboard page, consolidating all of their announcements, job offers, ride requests, etc. This may or may not be useful. Additionally, we could tie the WSO shell account management tools as well as account sign up tools in a little more closely with the account controller on Rails. (The latter wouldn’t be too difficult.)

• move to apache 2
• ssl reconfig
• error pages – also update these with new design + info

Redesign it and try out lots of different designs. Think hard about what exactly it should provide.

Ursula’s services will be migrated back off the (temporary... for 7 months thus far) stand-in iUrsula and onto Wilma and Wanda. Wanda will handle mail, mailing lists, DNS, iChat, etc. Wilma will handle users, user web, orgs web, and that kind of thing.
