WSO Accounts

This document provides information on getting and using a WSO account. (This page is currently under construction)

Getting an Account

Our automated account signup system is broken. Until we fix it, please request an account by sending mail to root (at) wso.williams.edu. Please include your OIT-provided username (Unix ID) in the email. Note that a WSO account is different than logging into the WSO website, which can be done with any OIT username (Unix ID).

Features

A WSO account provides the following.

  • Email forwarding: Mail to yourusername@wso.williams.edu will forward to the email address you specify.
  • Personal storage space (but remember to make your own backups!)
  • Remote access:
    • SSH (no telnet or RSH)
    • SFTP, SCP (no plain FTP or RCP)
    • AFP
  • Web hosting: Anything stored in the www directory in your WSO home directory is available on the web at http://wso.williams.edu/~yourusername/.

Updating account info and passwords

Please note that a valid email forwarding address must be maintained to keep your account active. (See the accounts policy.)

  • Change a password: Use the password changer at http://wso.williams.edu/password to change your password.
  • Reset a forgotten password: Request a password reset at http://wso.williams.edu/reset_password.
  • Update contact + forwarding info: Update your contact information, including email forwarding, at https://wso.williams.edu/updateinfo.html. Note: WSO no longer supports the use of .forward files for updating email forwarding. If you set up a .forward file, our servers will ignore it. You need to use the form above to update your email forwarding.
