Expert Strategies

General Strategies

  1. The ultimate cheap manuever. This particular move has been banned in some tournaments, when the timing is mastered, a player can become nearly invincible. This tactic requires that you be riding a Tyra (any size or color will do). Now, the idea is to avoid explosions by jumping straight up off of your Tyra and then landing on its back. For example, to ordinarily jump off of a Tyra you would press L+R simultaneously. This would result in your Bomberman jumping off from the Tyra and leaving it abandoned. However, if the Bomberman doesn't have room to jump off of the Tyra he will jump straight up (when L+R are pressed) and land again on the Tyra. This maneuver renders both the Bomberman and the Tyra invincible to any flames from bombs if the timing is done correctly. The best way to demonstrate this technique is to lay bombs trapping yourself into a single square on the screen. Then, when the bomb is about to explode (about three bomb pulses) press L+R, if done correctly you will emerge unharmed! This technique can then be applied when you face your Tyra directly away from a block/wall so that you don't have any room to jump off. Any square on the screen except for intersections will work. With this trick, you will never lose your Tyra unless there is a delayed or double explosion.
  2. A variation on manuever 1. Instead of timing your leap off/onto a Tyra to avoid an explosion, you can time your leap onto an egg (when you don't have a Tyra) to correspond with the explosion time. If done correctly, you will not be hurt.
  3. Help for a skull effect. When you get the skull effect of constant bomb laying, you can save yourself if you have the glove. When you lay a bomb, don't run away. Instead, pick the bomb up and carry it around until the skull effect wears off. This will save you from killing yourself. This tactic is especially important when you have many bombs or not much room to maneuver in.
  4. Kill people early. This technique has also been banned under certain circumstances. Shuffling helps to limit the amount which it affects certain players, but it is nevertheless extemely potent (great for grudges!). Basically it involves trapping people early in the match with a well placed thrown bomb/blue Tyra kicked bomb. If you win the glove in the Bomber Catcher the round before, then depending on the configuration of the soft blocks, you are guaranteed to kill at least 1 or 2 other Bombermen unless they know how to avoid the threat. However, the only way to avoid being trapped is to stand in the corner of the screen and wait for the thrown bomb to bounce off of you and then move in the opposite direction. This means, however, that you won't be able to break blocks looking for powerups.
  5. Powerup Loss. You can make someone lose a powerup whenever they are dizzied. The powerup is placed back onto the playing field. You can cause someone to get dizzy by throwing/Tyra kicking a bomb onto them, using a Yellow Tyra or by miso bombing (mad bombing) them after you die. Additionally the player will be temporarily stunned and is vulnerable to bombs.

Stage Specific Strategies

  1. Soccer Madness. Although there is no glove available on the board, it is possible to win one in the Bomber Catcher and have it when you are playing on the Soccer Level. If you have the glove, then you can execute the following manuever. (It is also possible with the blue Tyra's kicking ability, but much more difficult) The idea is to stand on one side of the screen and throw bombs around the screen into the goal on the other side. The bombs will immediately explode in the other goal, but the explosions will not be large enough to reach you. However, it is very dangerous to be next to the goals, so exercise caution in using this tactic.
