Episodic Behavior: In contrast to repetitive self-mutilation, episodic self-mutilation is often regarded as a symptom or feature of another mental illness. Furthermore, in repetitive self-mutilation, the patient tends to identify with a certain type of self mutilation, defining himself as a "cutter" or "burner".
