Diana's Offshore Field Seminar Song
Inspired by, written on, and performed on the SSV Corwith Cramer, 1-10 September 2005
Anders' wake-up calls are in demand
and he wears red shades when he's in command.
Ariel told us how the energy is locked
in a connected cycle -- a really great talk.
Chella made a really nice styrofoam head
but when it came back up, her nice artwork was dead!
For the MOB drill, Christine threw the ball,
and as for pink clothing, she has it all.
Paul's pickup line in the great pin chase
brought a smile to the third assistant scientist's face.
Valerie's a Mainer, but she's no country bumpkin
though her clothing colors are the embodiment of pumpkin.
Ashley broke a 10-year record when she hurled
and the engine room's her least-favorite place in the world.
When Drew sits, eyes closed, head tilted back,
you hope he's not sick, but just taking a nap.
Rebecca already knew how to sail
and then she hurt herself by falling on her tail.
Julie's usually pretty mellow
except when she's tipping big bowls of red jello.
Hallie always has a nice expression on,
and she tends to disrobe in the main salon.
Libby's not a student, but it didn't really matter,
except everything you say turns into data.
Abby does amazing freestyle rap,
and her lyrics got around the boat in a snap.
Hilary Palevsky -- HIP HIP hooray!
She could winkle in the lab all night and all day.
Ellie didn't feel so good for a while
so it makes us all glad to see her smile.
Evan, who had severe seasickness strife,
several days later had the time of his life.
Candice jumped in the water and got a black & blue
and I hear she has her eye on a member of the crew.
Steve got one really weird wake-up call
and when he sweats a line, he out-pulls us all.
Michelle talks to Christie, but she's our TA,
so maybe in a few weeks, she'll have more to say.
Christie granted our admissions wishes,
and now she helps us with the dinner dishes.
Leslie has a lot of really good songs
and she makes us really happy when the triangle gongs.
Because of Laura, we eat really well
even though she's not so fond of the ocean swell.
James fixes everything when it goes wrong
but waking him up takes really really long.
Sarah P helps make science fun
and her watch in the lab really gets things done.
Jane's power animal is the cormorant bird
and last year she was a Williams-Mystic student -- word!
Skye works on the Cramer despite getting sick
but when she jumped in the water, she was out awful quick.
Jeremy runs our meetings, talking over the din,
and it sounds like several people have their eye on him.
Scott, with his sextant, looks at the stars,
and fixes our position via Deneb and Mars.
Lizzy talks about her camp, 'cause it was a lot of fun,
and if you need to tie a knot, she can teach you every one.
When dinner was tofu, Lisa really liked that soy,
and her night orders always told us to enjoy.
Jen's so calm, nothing can faze her,
and she points out the stars with her snazzy green laser.
She sits on the deck and she plays her guitar
and she always knows exactly where we are.
These 10 days have been great; we'll never forget it,
and it might change our lives if we only let it.
