Central
Park is indeed located at the very center of Downtown Decatur. The
City of Decatur is currently
investigating new layouts for the park, in order to provide more
open space for gatherings such as the 2000 Celebration of Unity,
seen below, which attracted over 5,000 Decatur residents.
Pictured
above is the Transfer House, Decatur's chief historical icon. Erected
in 1885 in Lincoln Square, the Transfer House served as the line-change
point on Decatur's electric streetcar system, the first in Illinois.
The Transfer House was moved to Central Park in 1962.
