The main claim to fame of the chapel at King's College in Cambridge is the massive fan vault that forms the entire length of ceiling. Installed by John Wastell in 1515 it is the largest fan vault in the world and is considered much more appropriate for this small structure than the originally planned conventional vault. The chapel itself serves the college rather than the diocese as a cathedral would and is noteworthy for its relative simplicity. Stone buttressing marches uniformly down both sides of the exterior, and the interior is a pure restrained rectangular space void of columns and aisles.
