Welcome
...to the official website for Williams' Contemporary Singer-Songwriter winter study (january term) class taught by resident singer-songwriter Bernice Lewis. Students in the class spend the entire month of January writing, critiquing, recording, and performing their own songs. Some songs were written about an assigned topic, while others were written about any topic of the artist's choice. A few of the songs are collaborations between two students, which are on an assigned topic (see if you can guess) and tend to be comical (we hope).
The recordings on this site are of three varieties. Each year, the entire class puts on a final concert in which the students each perform one of the two songs they wrote during the course. Bernice hosts the concert, and often plays one or two of her own songs as well. The concert is always at the end of January and has become a popular campus event, drawing a huge crowd of students and teachers. In recent years, the concert has been recorded, and those recordings can all be found here. In addition, each year the class votes on several songs to be recorded professionally at a local recording studio (the entire class then gets to go and learn about the recording process). These recordings can be found here as well. Finally, some students have been active songwriters outside of the class, and some of their songs can be found in the 'independent' section.
Thanks for visiting the site, and we hope you enjoy our music!
