Match up dark and light squares, attempting to get as much variety as possible. With light square on top, chain piece all squares, sewing 1/4" from chalk line. When you run out of them, repeat, sewing 1/4" from the chalk line on the other side.
Snip all of the threads to separate squares. Cut all of the units on the chalk line. Press the triangle units open with seam allowances toward dark side.
