Look at the concrete bunkers in the background. These were actual bunkers from the War; they were retained as part of a cemetery. What are the implications of using physical objects of war in a memorial cemetery? Is this cemetery pacifist or does it embrace war?

 

 

"Quiet remembrance at the heroes' cemetery at Langemarck." In 1940, Hitler visited the Langemarck cemetery after the Blitzkrieg through Belgium. It was an important spiritual location for the whole Nazi movement. Notice that he is standing near the WWI bunkers.
