Think about Star Wars and the Force. Bass Wailage is like the Force in Marching Band. It provides foundation to the music; it shakes the stands; it binds the band together.

The "Jedi Knights" of Bass Wailage are the Low Brass. This elite group consists of Tubas, Baritones, and Trombones. Tenor Saxes are occasionally included, and the Percussionists are the Low Brass calabash cousins. Our mission is to ensure that Bass Wailage continues, that the woodwinds do not take over, and to consume massive amounts of sugar.

Abüt (that's 'Ah-boot' for you woodwinds) is the Tuba deity. She provides us with the power to shake the stands.

Abüt is normally in the form you see above; a Cabbage Patch doll with her midsection missing and an orange foot sticking out of her face. However, she sometimes takes the slightly more attractive form below. She will never take the form at right when there are woodwinds present.

Abüt was created in 1992 by Chris Robb. By stomping on an orange foot and an ordinary cabbage patch doll, he called forth the powers of Bass Wailage and created Abüt. There is still an green streak on the floor at the Neal Blaisdell Concert Hall where the event occurred. It has become a popular tourist attraction.

Prayers are made to Abüt before concerts and marching performances. This usually involves the secret ritual of the Tuba Spit. If you don't know what that means, look it up in the Glossary.

This is Mike Strode. He was a Low Brass God at Punahou from 1990-1994. He was the next in line after Chris Robb to lead the Low Brass. He introduced the Low Brass traditions of Skipping and The Bladder.

Adrian Peters was the Low Brass God from 1994-95. He has introduced the traditions of "Shpiffy", Mountain Dew Jell-O, and Dry Ice.

This is me. I was the Head Low Brass God for 1995-1996. I have started the traditions of Malasada-ing, the Salt Lick, the creating of Holy HomePages, and The Tuba Prayer.

The Bladder, which is one of the Holy Relics of the Low Brass, usually contains water to wash down Pixi Stix. This is passed from generation to generation. Here, Adrian receives the Bladder from Mike.
