The basic idea of KAOS is simple. Each player receives a weapon and a target to hunt. Annoying constraints such as lawsuits and noise complaints from elderly Williamstown inhabitants prevent us from using actual firearms. These are replaced by silent, non-lethal plastic guns of dubious South-East Asian origin. In any case, each player is being hunted by another player. If you are killed by your hunter, you are out of the game. If you survive and make your kills, you live. Eventually, only one player remains.

Registration

Registration for KAOS 2009 will be open from January 4th through 9th. Sign up at the table in Paresky, or by emailing your name to eph.kaos@gmail.com.

Reporting to KAOS Command

After registration is completed, you will recieve an e-mail detailing where weapon and target pickup will be. You will report at a given time to recieve your gun, information on your first target, and an official copy of The Rules. There is a $5 fee to cover the costs of weapons and prizes, payable when you report to pick up your gun.

The Contest Begins

The hunting begins at midnight on the night you report to KAOS Command. You will have a set amount of time to make your first kill (48 hours in recent games). After each kill, you will earn a new target and a new kill deadline. Be very certain to keep communication lines open for orders from KAOS Command (especially e-mail). Your target may change from time to time as the Death Squad takes effect.

Let Slip the Death Squad

The Death Squad is the enforcing arm of KAOS Command. Anyone who breaks rules will be put on the "death list". Anyone who fails to make a kill will also be put on the death list, until 12 hours after they remedy the lapse. You may run. You may hide. Survival is doubtful. Of course, players who repeatedly break rules or make themselves a nuisance will simply be removed from the game, at the discretion of KAOS Command.

The Final Elimination

This varies from year to year. The few who make it this far are indeed skilled. The Final KAOS round will be similar to the regular game, but more interesting. If you make it this far, you will receive more information at the appropriate time.

The Spoils The top players from the Final KAOS round will receive prizes. Typically, the prize has been $50 for the winner, $25 for second place, and $10 for third place, but will vary depending upon the number of entrants. In addition, winners are traditionally invited to help run the next year's game.

Happy Hunting...
