The Amber Series

This Portion of Epoch's Home Page under heavy construction.

The Amber series, by far Roger Zelazney's most famous piece of work, is divided into two parts, the Corwin series and the Merlin series. These (unnofficial) names are based on the protagonists' names.

The Corwin series is chronologically first, and it deals with Corwin, a prince of an extradimensional land named Amber, and his striving to win the throne of that land.

Merlin is Corwin's son, and the Merlin series is less a power struggle, and more Merlin attempting to extricate himself a tangled web of magic, deceit, and your basic Machiavellian plotting as he struggles with his unique heritage.

The Corwin Series consists of the following books:

  • Nine Princes In Amber
Corwin recovers his memory after years on Shadow Earth, and sets out to regain his heritage as the rightful king of Amber.

  • The Guns of Avalon
Corwin seeks a new weapon to take the throne of Amber from his brother Eric.

  • Sign of the Unicorn
As a new threat to Amber shows itself, Corwin strives to pull his fractitious family together in defense of their homeland.

  • The Hand of Oberon
The mysterious patriarch of the Amber royal family's presence is felt, and his true power begins to be revealed.

  • The Courts of Chaos
Finally, all is revealed, and Corwin races to prevent the destruction of reality as we have come to know it.

The Merlin Series:

  • Trumps of Doom
  • Blood of Amber
  • Sign of Chaos
  • Knight of Shadows
  • Prince of Chaos

More Coming. In a few days, I'll try to have short summaries of the Merlin books up. (Though I might have more trouble with this, as I have difficulty remembering where each begins and ends).
