Orlando stands large in the recent history of the family. He has been the most dedicated and outspoken rebel since the Ancient Grudge, and it was Orlando who killed King Mordred. Twice, he has fallen into Loyalist hands, and each time, he has been rescued by his compatriots.
Orlando seems to see himself at the center of a web of information. In addition to his formidable spy network, he's always been one to seek the Family's opinion on any bit of gossip or news. He's notorious for his convoluted theories as to why any given event happened, and for his unrelenting ability to turn any event into a commentary on the current kingship.
Orlando lacks many close friends in the Family, though Deirdre and he have always been close. He and Eleanore used to get along well, but their continuing opposition in matters political may have strained that friendship. Lot has always been able to count on Orlando's support, though the two snipe at each other on occasion.
After the Ancient Grudge, Orlando was exiled to Shadow, and he has made the best of his time out there. He has resources, from weapons to spare Trumps to spy headquarters to large-scale armies scattered throughout Shadow, and with his impressive talent at Trump and Pattern, he has always been able to call on these resources with relatively little notice.
Though Orlando's own claim on the throne of Amber is at least as good as Tsark's, he's never shown any interest in pushing himself as a candidate. As Brand's line becomes less viable, it is possible that this could change. In the meanwhile, Orlando has remained a valuable ally to those who would claim the Throne, rather than a faction in his own right.
No discussion of Orlando could be complete without mentioning his obsession with tea-growing. He has spent years perfecting various blends of tea, and he keeps his tea-growing Shadows under the most paranoid lock and key imagineable. It's widely acknowledged that his personal stock is the best in all existance.
