Session 10

Gerard went to get Benedict so that the latter could investigate Eleanore's shooting. Mordred concealed the evidence of the attack from Random.

Victoria met Grayson in her Shadow. Grayson introduced himself and asked her to lead him to Amber, which she agreed to do.

Benedict agreed to do the investigation. Mordred told Random what was up. Random was a little snotty.

Jonas got discovered sneaking around in an army camp way out in Shadow and killed a lot of people, then escaped.

Grayson and Victoria went to Rebma, then Amber, via Moire and Mordred. Grayson mentioned that he was Jonas' and Miriam's son, and took a guest quarters. Victoria criticized the efficiency of Amber's clerical staff, and took a guest quarters. Llewella looked pained.

Mordred spoke with Brand about the two newcomers, and Brand told him to get their oaths of fealty if possible. Brand said he was going incommunicado for a couple of days.

Eleanore got into Trump contact with Jonas and Trumped way out into Shadow (requiring multiple hops).

All (normal) Trumps were jammed for an evening.

Mordred determined that the Trumps had been jammed from the center of the Rebma Pattern, probably teleporting there from Tir.

When Trumps came back on, Julian Trumped Mordred and said that Brand didn't show up where he was supposed to in the morning, and wasn't responding to Trumps (still). He suggested that Brand could've been killed in the outage, and that in case that was the case, Mordred would have to take care of his security, both in a personal and realm sense.

Mordred, Julian, Random, and Benedict met and tried to figure out what the teams were. They concluded that Eric, Caine, Deirdre, Tsark, Lot, and Orlando were all very likely rebels, and the only people they definitely had were Mordred, Random, and Julian. Benedict said that he would not oppose Mordred, but then left the room when asked if he would support Mordred.

Random went to keep tails on Grayson and Victoria, and to steal Grayson's Trump deck. Julian contacted Jonas and got his support for Mordred. They went to talk to Gerard, who had just joined up with Eleanore.

Mordred secured Moire's support and he and Moire pressured Llewella into giving her support. Lewella went to go talk to Victoria.

"[Miriam's death] is so romantic! They'd make plays of it, but Jonas is still alive to beat them up." - Madeline

"What about your mother? What's she like?" - Grayson
"Cold. Wet. Distant." - Victoria

"[Llewella] is the goddess! She is that from which all life springs!" - Victoria
"..Right. So who else of the family do you know?" - Grayson

"And to be perfectly honest to you--" - Mordred to Random
"No, don't do it! Don't be honest with him!" - Jeff

"I claim the throne of Rebma. Amber must be destroyed. - click -" - Bernie, helpfully suggesting how Victoria might begin her first Trump call to Mordred

"Where did you get this Trump from?" - Mordred
"Your mother." - Victoria
"My mother. I clearly haven't been speaking with her enough." - Mordred

"You look an awful lot like Miriam." - Mordred
"Yes, she is my mother. Thus, Caine's grandson." - Grayson
"And Jonas, for that matter." - Mordred
"Yes, I hear that he is my father." - Grayson
" ... Welcome to Amber!" - Mordred

"Yeah, a couple of them make eye contact with you. You want to engage them in psyche contact and crush their brains?" - GM
"Oh wait." - Jeff and GM, in unison

"And the good news is that you can outrun them." - GM
"Such is the power of the scions of Amber." - Bernie

"I think I'll lay low for awhile. Probably the best place would be in a bunk with a blanket pulled over my head." - Jonas
"Such is the power of the scions of Amber." - Madeline
"Jonas, the tactical mind." - Bernie

"Yes-- what happened?!" - Orlando, picking up a Trump call from Eleanore, who has a facial wound
"Hey, I've got a new facial ornament -- think it's sexy?" - Eleanore
"I couldn't really say." - Orlando

"As you're no doubt intimately aware children can become weapons to be used against their parents." - Llewella
"Yes, I'd heard something of the sort." - Tsark

"Are we allowed up on the battlements, Mordred? Will someone stop us?" - Tsark
"It solves so many of my problems if you jump." - Mordred

"Remember that Martin has awesome powers of escaping the GM's notice." - GM

"This is not an effective way to run a kingdom!" - Victoria to Mordred

"Jonas, you've been gone for awhile. There's someone here you should talk to." - Mordred
"Who?" - Jonas
"Your son." - Mordred
"At this point he probably loses the concentration on the trump." - Jeff (Jonas' player)

"Sure, I'll give him a chance to pick up again." - Mordred
"Jonas?" - GM
"No." - Jonas

"Random is, if nothing else, loyal, because if nothing else he knows that everyone else in the family despises him and would be glad to see him dead." - Brand

"Aunt Fiona just talked to me. Ooooof!" - Grayson

"The whole deck of the family is jammed. What does that mean?" - Eleanore
"Somebody's getting killed." - Jonas

"I will stop by and give him my list of suggestions!" - Victoria
"The secretary didn't stop her at the door?" - Mordred
"You're at breakfast, dude." - GM
"Note to self: breakfast in office." - Mordred

"Have you met Victoria?" - Tsark
"The name doesn't ring a bell." - Deirdre
"Llewella's kid." - Tsark
" - snnnk - " - Deirdre fails to not laugh

"The green-haired ice bitch actually suffered a man to touch her! I wonder if she laid in missionary position, turned her head to the side, and thought of Amber--in her case, Rebma?" - Deirdre

"Your father didn't check in this morning." - Julian to Mordred
"Is that stark terror I see in your eyes?" - Jeff to Dave

"If it makes you feel any better, if your father is dead I think you will make a better king." - Julian

"...Suggestions as to who hasn't been answering trumps today." - Mordred
"Well, I've tried a number of trumps, but I suppose you're referring to Brand." - Random
"Benedict... pales." - GM

"Benedict stretches and says, 'I do not like [Random].' Julian smirks." - GM

"I suppose you will be wanting my support?" - Benedict
"Yes." - Mordred
"Hm." - Benedict

"I will not oppose you. I am loathe to see more bloodshed in the family." - Benedict

"You want me to disappear [Grayson's] trump deck? He doesn't take very good care of it." - Random
"What an unpleasant idea." - Mordred
- Random shrugs -
"I think the cleaning staff must have misplaced it this morning while tidying his room." - Mordred
"Right." - Random, leaving the room.

"Julian says, 'Will Fiona support you?' Benedict looks unhappy." - GM

"Keep in mind that I am not a tactful man, Benedict -- who are the non-fair-weather friends?" - Julian
"Benedict looks like he wishes Julian had more tact." - GM

"Mordred just looks at Benedict." - Mordred
"Benedict stands up and walks out." - GM

"I'm going back to castle Amber. Apparently they need me. Apparently some shit's hitting the fan." - Jonas
"Fuck." - Eleanore

"What's going on?" - Jonas
"There is a strong possibility that Brand died last night." - Julian
"Shiiiit." - Jonas

"Something's hitting the fan. I think it's shit." - Eleanore, to Gerard.

Session 11

Llewella ordered Victoria, in so many words, to go and put herself at the disposal of Mordred. Victoria made a few snide comments about Mordred's ruling style, then did as she was told.

Deirdre Trumped Tsark and demanded that he come through as soon as possible. After getting to his own quarters, Tsark did so. Deirdre revealed that she was a ways away from Amber, and told Tsark that his father wanted to talk to him, and that Brand was dead. Tsark Trumped Eric and was introduced to Dara.

Jonas, Julian, Gerard, and Eleanore met and Julian asked Gerard and Eleanore where they stood. Eleanore said that she was with Mordred, Gerard hedged.

Random Trumped Mordred and told him that Grayson and Tsark had vanished. Victoria found Mordred and he told her to put Atlantis on a war footing, then taught her about Trump calls (using a Trump of her that he'd recently drawn), and then gave her a Trump of him. She told him that she wouldn't interrupt her religious ceremonies to take a Trump call, planning on having religious ceremonies all the time.

Eric, Tsark, Deirdre, Orlando, Caine, Lot, and Grayson met and discussed their plans. Orlando and Tsark argued that they might manage a bloodless coup. Lot expressed some reservation about letting Eric take the throne, but suggested that he and Eric would work things out once Mordred didn't have anything anymore. They eventually decided to start calling the presumed neutrals and see where they stood.

Mordred Trumped Fiona, endured some insults, and got a grudging support out of her. He then Trumped Martin and the latter hedged.

Jonas and Julian talked for a while, and Jonas mentioned the army he'd seen out in Shadow. Julian suggested that he keep it very quiet for a while. Jonas agreed to, and joined Julian in the search for Brand out in Begma.

Orlando Trumped Eleanore and felt her out for where she stood. Eleanore played it cagey, and Orlando reported that there was some hope from that end.

Tsark Trumped Jonas and felt him out. He decided that Jonas was firmly in Mordred's camp, though he'd prefer to avoid bloodshed.

Jonas found the site of an apparant attack on Brand's forces. The defenders appeared to be slaughtered, to a man, and Julian used his tracking-fu to determine that the attacking force had been very small. Further, there were no bodies of the attackers, and the tracks indicated that a large number of bodies had not been dragged away. Jonas used his medicine-fu to determine that most of the defenders had been killed by short swords and hatchets, wielded by very strong but not totally superhuman people. Some, however, had been killed with bow and arrow, and others with a battle axe, the latter by someone who was Amberite-level superhuman. He suspected Deirdre straight off. Brand's body was not found.

Julian and Jonas Trumped Mordred, who came to inspect the site. He sent a bird of desire to Brand, and watched as it left the Shadow. Julian informed him that tracks indicated that three people had left the fight, scuffled, and then two of them returned.

Mordred and Julian dragged Gerard out to the ambush site, in order to convince him that the rebels were bad people. While he was out there, Tsark Trumped him, and asked him where he stood. Gerard wanted to speak to Eric, so Tsark arranged that. Eric and Gerard talked, with Eric stating in fairly certain terms that he would be King, and would tear Amber down around Mordred's ears if necessary. Gerard seemed to be looking for a different solution.

Caine Trumped Julian, and then reported that Julian was going to stay in Mordred's camp. Julian reported to Mordred that Caine had called him.

Lot Trumped Benedict and reported that Benedict was not amenable to fighting with the rebels, but neither would he join Mordred. Lot then Trumped Martin and reported that he would probably be willing to join the rebels if pressed.

Jonas Trumped Eleanore, talked with her, and then Trumped back to Amber and tried (unsuccesfully) to find Grayson. He then went down to the city and talked to Benedict, who told him that he would not get involved in any war, and to pass that along to Mordred. Benedict appeared to be moving out.

Mordred and Victoria talked, and Mordred convinced Victoria to be a little less useless in the war effort. Victoria began to instigate jyhad against an unspecified threat off in Shadow. Later, they talked again, and Mordred agreed to provide a sample threat for Victoria's people to be impressed by.

Mordred and Eleanore talked, I have no idea about what. Then Jonas Trumped Mordred and told him that Benedict wasn't going to go along in these things. Mordred looked unhappy. Then Julian Trumped Mordred and told him that there was a big army out in Shadow that Jonas had found. He suggested that someone go take a look at it, rather than guess what it was up to. Mordred decided on Llewella.

Mordred Trumped Llewella and talked with her, finding out that you can't follow a bird of desire. He mentioned that he had a Trump of Victoria, and Llewella mentioned that she'd like to borrow it at some point. Mordred told Llewella to go find the army out in Shadow. She Trumped Jonas, got a description, then did so.

Martin Trumped Mordred and told him that he wanted to try to see a peaceful solution, and asked Mordred what he would be willing to offer for a peaceful solution. Mordred said in no uncertain terms that he would be king, and that he wouldn't suffer his father's assassins on the throne. Martin appeared to be willing to believe that some of the rebels were assassins, but not all of them.

"And at that point, knock knock knock -- I presume you are knocking, and not just kicking [Gerard's] door down?" - GM
"Hi Gerard- aaaaiiiigh!" - Mordred

"Gerard. Think we might have a little chat?" - Mordred
"Yes. Eleanore, you were just leaving?" - Gerard
"Yup." - Eleanore

- Mordred checks his office for assassins before going through -
"But you can't see behind the desk..." - Bernie
"Which is a really good argument for top-view Trumps." - Dave
"You trump in, aaaaaaaa!" - GM, making "falling" gestures
"It would make for some really impressive entrances." - Madeline

"Why don't we try this, why don't we just get Mordred to declare one of us heir and then loudly forgive the rest?" - Tsark
- Long pause -
"Henh." - Orlando

"Llewella is very good with the Pattern." - GM
"She'd have to be, to find people who worshipped her." - Tsark

"You going to pick up the sword again?" - Mordred
"I hope it won't come to that." - Jonas, who slaughtered several truckloads of people last session

"Flora could have [blood] cursed someone..." - Bernie
"Cursed someone to have terrible fashion sense!" - Dave
"Well, it clearly wasn't Orlando." - Madeline, archly

"I dunno... [The rebels] have a pension plan..." - Julian to Mordred, proving that he does have a sense of humor, if a strange one

- Orlando overhears Eric's half of a Trump conversation with Gerard -
"--Benedict is many things, many of them admirable, but he is not the leader of this family.
"--No, that's not just because he doesn't want to."
- Eric

"I'm in Amber. I'm looking for my son. He's not here. I was wondering if you might know where he is since you're not here either." - Jonas to Tsark

"Make preparations to move the army. Don't tell anyone where." - Mordred
- Julian rubs his temples -
"Oh, the army loves that. We're going to fight! We're going to fight! Where? We're going to fight!" - Bernie

"Is this another recruitment drive?" - Benedict
"No." - Jonas
"Then come in." - Benedict

"Well. I suppose nobody will say [Brand] didn't have it coming." - Benedict

"I am loathe to drag Martin into this -- he's actually got a life." - Orlando

"So you're going to approach them diplomatically before you invade them." - GM to Victoria

"So, he's willing to take all of Amber down with him?" - Orlando, about Mordred
"That seems to be a trait inherent in Amberites..." - Eleanore

Session 12

Mordred got some secret stuff.

In a scene which had (gasp!) multiple things going on at once, Tsark demonstrated to any of the rebels who didn't already know, and to a large number of hapless 2nd Worlders, that he has become quite badass in the field of beating people up barehanded. Orlando, Eric, and Dara watched him. Lot approached Eric and started to talk/argue with him. Orlando, then Tsark, noticed that Tsark had been hit with a small, poison dart. Tsark got rid of the dart and called off the activities. Dara exposited that the dart was a somewhat common assassin's tool, shot at very short range through a mini-blowgun. Tsark was discomforted, but not noticably impaired by the poison.

Orlando talked to Lot about what he and Eric had been arguing about; Lot thought that Eric needed to kiss Gerard's ass into coming onto the Rebel side, Eric wasn't willing to sacrifice his dignity that way. Orlando offered to talk to Eric. Orlando also conspiracy-theoried that Caine had tried to assassinate Tsark in order to inspire Tsark more towards action, and then Jonas because Caine doesn't like Jonas. Then, Random had decided to use Caine's activities as a screen, and tried to assassinate Eleanore because he could always pin the blame on Caine later. Lot thought that sounded less than crazy.

Meanwhile, Eleanore contacted Jonas about the Arezian restaurant that Benedict had pointed her towards. They decided to go and check the place out. Nothing immediately suspicious happened at the restaurant when they went there for breakfast, and Jonas eventually borrowed some of Julian's men and had the restaurant surveilled.

Also meanwhile, Mordred and Victoria conspired to give Victoria's Shadow an object lesson in listening to what Victoria had to say. Mordred dispensed Random to come up with a couple-hundred-person "scouting force" of "demons" that Victoria could point to as a reason to unify under the horrible threat. Victoria returned to Atlantis to spread the good news and consider assassinating diplomats.

Orlando talked to Eric, and Eric bitched about Gerard being a stubborn bitch. Orlando agreed to talk to Gerard.

Several people did secret things.

Tsark took pains, throughout the session, to spend time with Dara and get to know her better.

Mordred ordered Julian back to Begma, to sew things up there. Julian requested/demanded some "personal time." He refused to say what it was about. Unsuprisingly, Mordred granted it.

Orlando talked to Gerard and Gerard continued to stall in terms of taking sides.

The rebels had a Big Strategy Session, the details of which are secret from the non-rebels.

Some more secret stuff.

The invasion of Victoria's Shadow happened, and Random Trumped back to Amber. He noted that Mordred's office had been broken into.

Jonas tried unsuccesfully to contact Grayson via Trump.

Grayson turned up in Jonas' bedroom. They had a long talk about Miriam, which culminated in Grayson dispensing what he apparantly considered some kind of justice, by means of cutting up Jonas pretty badly, but noticeably non-fatally (Jonas didn't resist). Grayson then contacted Mordred, informed him that Jonas would need medical attention, and Trumped out. (A place Trump, for anyone who's keeping track of such things).

Mordred dropped Jonas off in his private medical Shadow.

Julian reported that Lot had returned to the war in Begma, but that he thought he could continue to advance.

Mordred went and talked to Fiona about what appeared to be the Jewel of Judgement (suprise!). Fiona disclaimed much knowledge about it, but suggested keeping it in a bath of virgin's blood for 24 hours, more or less on general principles.

Tsark talked to Gerard, Gerard basically said that he didn't think that Eric was appropriate for the job -- Lot had the better claim.

Mordred talked to Gerard, flashed the Jewel (which didn't seem to really impress Gerard), and offered some counter-arguments. Gerard kept hedging, but told Mordred that he didn't think things looked good for Mordred.

Jonas recovered enough to accept visitors, and Trumped Grayson. Grayson answered, and Jonas pulled him through to Mordred's medical Shadow. They had a heart-to-heart, the details of which are secret.

Apparantly, Mordred and Orlando had a long and dramatic conversation, but I was out of the room, and have no idea what it involved, except that they didn't reconcile their differences.

I'm sure I missed several conversations that happened in there.

- Taking the guy that Tsark poisoned to the medics -
"Well, then, we should get this guy off; Tsark?" - Orlando
"Orlando wants to get the guy off..." - Damian
"No soup for you." - GM

"Then I'll call Eleanore." - Mordred
"Fine! I call Jonas." - Orlando, seperately
"Hold on, I'm getting a Trump call." - Eleanore, to Jonas
"So am I..." - Jonas

"Hi! How's the rebellion?" - Jonas
"Getting off to a roaring start..." - Orlando

"[The city dwellers] probably recognize you, just so they can get out of your way-- no, wait, you're all nice and squishy these days." - Madeline
"Naw, I haven't killed anyone in a long time. In Amber." - Jonas
"Riiiiight." - Damian

"For the record, in Amber, unlike on the real Earth, the solstices and equinoxes fall exactly in the middle of the seasons they represent." - GM
"That makes so much more sense." - Madeline
"I figure, it's the one true world on which all others are based-- it should be mathematically rigorous." - GM

"So you can have some of the traditional spicy cuisine of Lot's homeland." - GM
"They're in Lot's homeland?" - Madeline
"No, it's an 'ethnic' restaurant." - GM

"Since your father is a whirling demon of death, I've been trying to convince him to stay out of the war." - Orlando
"Tactfully put, Orlando." - Grayson, whose mother Jonas killed

"Let me point out to you that there's this thing called Night, when diplomatic stuff doesn't happen." - Mordred
"That's when I pray." - Victoria

"It is not right to sacrifice propriety for political advantage." - Gerard
"Augh!" - Orlando
"Would you sacrifice fashion sense--" - Mary
"Dude, I would wear a gunnysack if it would get me back to Amber!" - Orlando

Session 13

Tsark resumed his unarmed combat thingies at the beginning of the day, apparantly undisturbed by the fact that someone poisoned him last session. His efforts pay off, as a 2nd Worlder named Despil, formerly of Sawall, swears alleigance to him. Dara accuses him of poaching from Sawall, but seems basically unperturbed about the whole deal.

Jonas recovers enough to move around (slowly and painfully), but delays returning to Amber so that he can conceal his injury.

Mordred eventually pulls Jonas through to Amber, and then everybody sits down and talks to him. He decides that Eleanore is pretty much ready to come back to Amber with her army of 50,000 poor, doomed souls. He and Victoria plot about getting Atlantis' army, which Victoria's doing a pretty good job with. Llewella reports back about the 2nd World army, suggesting that it's a half year to a year away, but has 250,000 poor, doomed souls. Mordred tells Llewella to help Eleanore bring her army in.

Mordred appoints Jonas director of defense in Amber, and Jonas starts worrying about how to keep Mordred from being messily assassinated. Jonas also gets a report about the ethnic restaurant that Eleanore's would-be assassins were traced back to, and he tells the spies to keep looking.

Orlando talks with Eleanore and finds out that she's giving Mordred an army. Orlando says that he thought Eleanore was staying neutral/being undecided. Eleanore says that she is. Orlando points out that supplying people with armies doesn't quite count as staying neutral. eleanore says oh, what, this army? It's just a little army, hardly worth bothering about. Orlando asks whether Eleanore is going to give him an army too. Eleanore says that she'll think about it.

Orlando tells Eric that Eleanore is bringing an army to Amber. Eric tells Gerard that Eleanore is putting herself into a bad position in Eric's Eventual Amber. Gerard tells Eleanore that she's foolishly burning bridges with Eric. Eleanore tells Orlando that she heard Eric's pissed with her. Orlando talks to Eric about the whole deal, and Eric says that he's putting the fear of God into Gerard.

Mordred calls a Loyalists-currently-in-Amber meeting. Fiona's eyes are yellow. Everybody tacitly decides not to ask. The loyalists-ciA decide to publically declare Brand dead, murdered by the "enemies of Amber." They'll have a funeral and everything.

Mordred calls Victoria, Eleanore, Llewella, Gerard and Martin and tells them that there's a funeral and all that. He tries to call Benedict, but Ben's not answering. Everybody else in the Family knows about the deal within a day.

Tsark's up to like a dozen or two retainers, and they start getting murdered. He consults with Dara, and then takes measures to protect them.

The funeral happens. Nobody gets assassinated. Jonas relaxes fractionally. Martin and Benedict (who shows up) and Gerard all fend off various pokings at their loyalties.

Another one of Tsark's underlings gets murdered. He consults more, sets up one guy as bait, and then counter-ambushes some would-be murderers. He interrogates the would-be's, and discovers that they're retainers of one Chinaway Jesby. He talks more with Dara, and determines that the best course of action would be to pop the heads off of a couple of Chinaway's underlings. He proceeds to do so. The attacks stop.

"Orlando has been pretty much showing up, moving the army, and leaving." - GM
"I assume he's doing that thing we agreed on..." - Bernie
"So you think!" - Madeline
"In actual fact, he's sleeping with Mordred!" - GM
"That's probably another thing you shouldn't do to [Dave's] character when he isn't here." - Madeline

"I probably call Eleanore and say that I'm not taking trump calls anymore." - Jonas
"We'd already gone over that. You're calling me." - Eleanore

"Well, I heard from your dad that you were running chores for him and that's why you didn't call..." - Eleanore
"Yeah, I was busy." - Jonas
"Bullshit." - Eleanore

"I've replaced the crown of Amber with this crown of thorns! Let's see if Mordred notices!" - Bernie

"Two pizzas, one with the works, one pepperoni and tomato; the Family special." - Dave, on the phone
"Oh, yeah, that's us." - Jeff
"One big happy family." - Bernie

"You're providing them with more corpses to throw against us to create corpses on our side." - Orlando to Eleanore
"Reminds me of Paris." - Dave, referring to Eric's PC in our last game
- baffled look - "Oh! I was thinking, what? Casablanca?" -Madeline

"Let's look at it this way: the people I flat-out like on your side are you--- and here's where I have to stop to think." - Eleanore, to Orlando

"Of all the people to get stuck out in Shadow with, Lot wasn't the worst... He wasn't the best, by any stretch of the imagination..." - Orlando

"I maintain that I don't think it makes that much difference." - Eleanore
"Then why does Mordred have you doing it? He's not an idiot." - Orlando
"Quote that!" - Dave

"The funeral's planned, and the Chief of Homeland Security, here..." - GM, referring to Jonas' new job
"Ow." - Jeff

"He was in a dungeon for a hundred years... Who's to say he hasn't changed?" - Eleanore
"I am. I've seen him, and he doesn't look that different." - Orlando
- cough cough cough cough cough - - Madeline

"I trump Orlando." - Jonas
"No response from Orlando." - GM
"I trump Grayson." - Jonas
"No response from Grayson." - GM
"I trump Eleanore." - Jonas
"Eleanore?" - GM
- Eleanore accepts the call -
"Just checking to see they still work." - Jonas

"The fact that his head has been physically separated from his body..." - Bernie
"I think it was a suicide!" - GM
"His spine just leapt out of his body like a toaster!" - Bernie

"Well, I could either do a trump of their place, since I'm probably faster at it than them, or I could get Fi to do it." - Mordred
" 'Ask' Fi to do it." - GM

"Oh Eleanore, you're getting a trump call from Fiona." - GM, singsong
"Yes?" - Eleanore
"Coming through!" - Fiona, who does so

"I'll call Mordred." - Llewella
"Yes?" - Mordred
"Mordred, dear, did you sic Fiona on us?" - Llewella

"And I don't want you telling anyone else about this!" - Mordred to Eleanore
"Ooh! What a controlling bastard he is!" - Madeline
"The peanut gallery will now be silent..." - GM

Session 14

Tsark continued to build up his 2nd World force. He and Dara have dinner with Orlando, during which time Orlando asks lots of pointed questions about Dara's parentage. It comes to light that Dara's father was a traitor of some hazily defined sort, and Dara hardly knew him. Dara indicates that he's dead, as is her mother, albeit under rather different circumstances. Dara says that this is one reason why she was never encouraged to build her own henchcritter group, despite being so high in the House hierarchy.

Victoria tells Mordred that she's being stretched thin, what with building up the Knights of Creation (the demon-killin' army in Atlantis), doing politics, and building a Shadowpath to Amber all at once. Mordred swings by Atlantis and helps with the Shadowpath-building.

Orlando talks with Dara again, and reveals that he, Orlando, thinks that Dara is an Amberite. Dara politely expresses some skepticism, and Orlando claims to have Mystical Pattern Abilities to tell these kinds of things. Dara says that she remembers what both her parents look like, and she's seen a full Trump deck, and neither of her parents are in it. But she admits that she can't be sure that those are her true parents.

Later, Dara tells Tsark about her conversation with Orlando, and Tsark and Orlando spend some time talking and speculating.

Eleanore (?) notices that the Rebels are moving towards Amber a lot faster than was previously expected, and alerts the loyalists to this fact.

Orlando tells Gerard that he thinks Random could be responsible for Brand's death. Gerard relays this theory to Mordred. Mordred has a private talk with Gerard.

Gerard and Eleanore talk, and, after that, Gerard seems to be mostly in Mordred's camp. He moves back into Castle Amber.

Julian tells Mordred, in so many words, to start acting like a king and command his supporters to help with the coming military conflict. Specifically, he wants Jonas and Fiona to be doing more. Mordred bites the bullet and orders Jonas to go build an army (Mordred finds the Shadow, Jonas handles the recruiting), and Fiona to work on Victoria's Shadowpath.

Victoria reacts with considerable alarm to know that Fiona is going to be stopping by Atlantis, but her religious sensibilities appear to get the better of her, and she sets up a sub-cult of the Llewella worshippers to worship Fiona. Fiona seems amused, and possibly even pleased.

Tsark detaches himself from the 2nd World army and goes to help Lot with final preparations for the big invasion. He takes a number of his 2nd Worlders with him.

Mordred officially announces that he's going to have his coronation on the first day after Midwinter, as Brand did. He orders a week of somber reflection on Brand's death, and starts dealing with coronation plans.

Eleanore's army (50k people) arrives in Amber.

"While I admit that my father married my mother mostly so that I would not be a bastard--" - Orlando
"It didn't work." - Dave

"I'm afraid I've rather put my foot in my mouth on several occasions when talking to Grayson." - Orlando

"I have to have something to do with my army. I know armies are bad things." - Victoria

"Victoria apparently has an unsecured army in Atlantis." - Julian
"Are there any shadowpaths from there to Amber?" - Jonas
"She is building one." - Julian
"Huh. Does Mordred know about this?" - Jonas
"I believe he ordered this." - Julian
"Huh." - Jonas
"Didn't bother to mention this to the director of homeland security..." - Damian

"Mordred turns up in your shadow." - GM
"I believe he's going to widen my shadowpath?" - Victoria
"We're just going to leave that alone." - GM

"Orlando, why are you asking all these questions about my father?" - Dara
"He has father issues, dammit!" - GM

"And you know this because of your great mystical knowledge?" - Tsark
"Yes, some of us have studied." - Orlando

"I do not see that Dara's lineage should have any effect on your relationship." - Orlando to Tsark

Session 15

We open with the first of many rebels doing secret things, and with Mordred pounding out the words of the oath that he intends to have his supporters swear during the coronation.

The next morning, Eric is missing from the rebel army. The rebels look for him. Eventually, Tsark is notified, and Tsark guesses where Eric might have gone. He speaks with the Weir, who tell him that a tall man with grey eyes and short black hair wielding a long thin sword attacked and killed Eric the previous night, in their encampment. The man was reportedly accompanied by a dark-haired woman, and he and she Trumped out.

The rebels succesfully control the spread of rumors of Eric's demise, and start to work on figuring out what happened. Jonas somewhat fits the description given, and the sword seems an exact match, but there are aspects that don't fit.

Mordred circulates the oath. Victoria reads it and objects strongly enough to start pulling Atlantis' army back from its deployment to Amber. Fiona notices this and alerts Mordred. Mordred calls Victoria and they discuss. She objects to swearing "obediance" to Mordred. Mordred calls Llewella. Llewella calls Victoria and tells her it's not a big deal, it's just a formality, and that Llewella accepts responsibility for any problems. Victoria says that she's got an idea, and hangs up on Llewella.

The rebels decide that Jonas and Eleanore are the most likely candidates for the attack, and work to gather secondary information to link them to the assassination. Plus, various secret rebel stuff.

Victoria gets very liquored up and then cuts off her own tongue, to the entire gaming table's absolute shock. Fiona finds her eventually, and tends the wound, seeming kind of impressed by the whole affair. She advises Victoria to burn the severed tongue.

Mordred sends an invitation to the coronation, plus secret stuff, to Benedict. Jonas personally delivers an invitation to Grayson. Grayson puts off Jonas.

Orlando calls Eleanore and elicits a confession from her that she was involved in the attack. Orlando tells other rebels, and secret stuff occurs.

Llewella finds Victoria and is totally horrified. She says that Victoria should have consulted her. Victoria looks nauseated and smug. Llewella tells Mordred that Victoria can't perform. Mordred looks disgusted and tired.

Lot sends Mordred a note asking for a meeting. Mordred sends back nothing more than acknowledgement that the message was received.

Morded calls Martin, and tells him to get the hell off the fence, in nearly so many words. Martin says that he'll go to the coronation, then turns around and tells Orlando that he needs to decide soon. Orlando tells him, again, to get the hell out into Shadow.

Llewella and Victoria talk, Victoria asking why they're supporting Mordred and Llewella talking about political realities. There's a fairly obvious failure to communicate. Llewella leaves a book about Arezia for Victoria, which points out some fairly awful things Lot has done. Victoria asks Fiona (who reads lips, as it happens) if the book is true. Fiona talks around the point for a while, tells Victoria that she likes Lot, that what's appropriate for an Amberite is not the same as what's appropriate for a normal person, then acknowledges that the book is probably factually accurate.

Rebel secret stuff.

Tsark talks to Gerard about Eric's murder, fingering Jonas and "a female familymember." Jonas and Gerard then talk a bit. Gerard reads between the lines and calls Eleanore. Eleanore won't talk about it over Trump. Gerard won't go through and cuts her off. Gerard goes to talk to Mordred, saying that he thinks that Jonas killed Eric, and has a strong reason to believe that this is true. Mordred doesn't think it's likely to be true, but agrees to look into it. He talks to Random.

Mordred goes looking for Jonas, fails to find him at the place where he's supposed to be building the army, finds him in Amber, and talks to him. In secret.

Lot Trumps Mordred, says that Jonas and Eleanore killed Eric, says that he doesn't hold with assassination, including the assassination of Brand, and wasn't in on the latter. He says that if he has anything to say about it, Mordred won't be targeted, and neither will Jonas or Eleanore, but he's not sure what Tsark's going to do. He suggests that assassination is not the way to resolve their differences.

"So, Mordred, Random comes in to your office looking sheepish." - GM
"Yes?" - Mordred
"It appears that Orlando has compromised Opel's government to the point that they'll offer him support." - Random

"Victoria, what can I do for you?" - GM
"I'm not going to swear. I'm packing up my army and going back to Atlantis." - Victoria

"I'm also going to be getting drunk, because of the plan." - Victoria to GM
"The plan?" - GM, blankly

"Have you ever actually gotten drunk?" - GM
"No." - Victoria
"It's difficult, but you can do it with perseverance." - GM
"Such is the power of the scions of Amber." - Bernie

"Y'know, Mordred, I've got a family to defend. This sounds terrible, but I think you're less of a vengeful person than Eric." - Martin

"[Cutting out your own tongue] was... somewhat drastic, but innovative." - Fiona to Victoria

"Let us return the army to its original state." - Llewella
"I don't have any objections..." - Victoria
"You don't voice any objections." - Madeline

"Did you see what Victoria did?" - Fiona
"'See' wouldn't be quite accurate." - Mordred
"It was quite clever." - Fiona
"Depends on your perspective, I suppose." - Mordred
"You always were full of yourself." - Fiona

"Are you pregnant with Jonas's child?" - Orlando to Eleanore
"Not another one!" - Jeff

"Of all the people on our side, I have least countenanced assassination." - Lot
"It's true. I can't even get him to kill cats." - Orlando
"Cats?" - GM
"You get too many, you have to kill some." - Orlando
"OK, a glimpse into Orlando's psyche..." - GM

"I thought you were the one who called this big secret meeting." - Jeff
"They kicked me out. They don't like me anymore." - Madeline

"This is not mutilation, this is an act of faith and belief and conviction." - Victoria
"This is a strange distinction to hear from one who two days ago was arguing the semantics of 'obedience'." - Llewella

"We are supporting Mordred because he is my sister's daughter--" - GM, misspeaking as Llewella
"Son." - Madeline
"All these years we never knew..." - Jeff
"Hey, I'm not gay after all!" - Orlando

"This goes against everything you have taught my home to tend to!" - Victoria
"Oo! Crisis of faith time!" - Bernie
"Victoria spends the next few days watching TV and eating ice cream..." - Damian

"I did not rebel. I followed the strength of my convictions." - Victoria
"That's what rebels do." - Llewella

"I think [Eric's alleged death] is a ruse." - Mordred
"I have reason to believe it is not." - Gerard
"Care to elaborate?" - Mordred
"Not really." - Gerard

"Oh, uh, I heard that Victoria--" - Random
"Don't talk to me about that." - Mordred

"Whassup?" - Jonas
"We need to talk." - Mordred
"Yeah, we need to talk." - Jonas
"You should come here." - Mordred
"Yeah, I think I should come there." - Jonas

"Why can't you be queen?" - Victoria to Fiona

"Or, we could continue our program of assassination." - Bernie
"What program of assassination?" - Dave
"Your program of assassination!" - Madeline
"I don't have a program of assassination!" - Dave
"Half of my ear says otherwise!" - Madeline
