Log 8
Note: The perceptive may notice that this log is, first, out of
order, and second, in a distinctly different style from the previous.
The ordering is because session 7 was a combined session which was (or
will be) logged by John Melesky of Chaos Logging fame. The second is
due to the fact that our Amber Logger, Chris Warren, has left
the area to pursue job opportunities. As such, I, the GM, will be
providing (much briefer) logs.
For once, things seemed relatively quiet in Amber. Bleys and Random
had come to an agreement, nobody was kidnapped, etc. The PC's split
up, doing 'quiet time' things in the wake of the wedding. Gavin went
to infiltrate the Arzhen Trading Co., Gwenyth went to chill in
Shadow, Jamie went to preside over some religious duties that went
with her role as High Templar, and Adria and Janna went to see if
Adria's San Francisco residence had been scouted by the Golden Pattern
Folk yet. (They had stolen a location Trump of it in Adria's
captivity)
Adria and Janna discovered that, indeed, the Golden people had been to
Frisco, and boldy ran away.
Meanwhile, Jamie began to see signs that the Cresewali New Church was
being infiltrated by people in illusory shells. She continued to
investigate.
Gavin was making good headway in increasing his fortune in Bleys'
company.
And Gwennyth was discovering evidence of some strange, cross-Shadow
attacks on apparantly random targets. It seemed that some gypsy-like
caravans were disappearing in an unnamed, largely unimportant,
Shadow. But, frighteningly, there were traces of Shadowwalking around
the attack site, and, yet more frighteningly, Gwennyth was unable to
trace them for more than a few Shadows.
At this point, all the PC's except Gavin (who wasn't accepting Trump
calls at the time) were invited to brunch at Castle Amber, and all
accepted. They had a suprisingly pleasant time, despite Flora's
revelation that she had infiltrated "Arzhen's" organization and that
someone else had done it before her.
Gwennyth mentioned her experiences, and everyone decided to have a
look at the Shadow in question. Since it occurred to all and company
that Gavin hadn't done enough for them yet, they decided to track him
down and bring him along.
Tracking Gavin down turned out to be a relatively simple process, but
Jamie seemed a bit nonplussed to find him in 'her' organization, and
shortly thereafter, Trumped Bleys to mention it to him. Gavin agreed
to go along with the expedition, but wanted to satisfy his job as
quartermaster first, so the trip was delayed a few days.
However, by the time the caravan got to its destination, Bleys was
waiting for Gavin, and informed him that he (Bleys) was a bit suprised
to find Gavin in his employ, but was quite delighted with the
situation, and would, in fact, be more than willing to tell Random
that Gavin had been in his employ for quite some time, including as
far back as when Gavin had actually been working for Random directly,
unless Gavin helped out with this little problem of shell people in
his organization. Gavin agreed.
Everybody else was, at that point, dealing with the Shell people and
discovering, via a bit of investigative work in Cresewali, that the
infiltration seemed quite advanced. Jamie begged off of the whole
expedition out into Shadow to deal with the problem in the Circle.
So the group which ended up going out to Shadow was Gavin, Adria,
Martin, Gwenyth, and Janna. They quickly found out that the gypsy
Shadow was right near to the Shadow of Golden Badness, and that
further, the Shadow of Golden Badness and several Shadows surrounding
it were now seemingly impenatrably warded. Adria and Martin scanned
the wardings, and discovered only one minor flaw, not 'big' enough to
fit a whole person through, though a Lens might manage it. However,
the decision was not to try such things.
Jamie, in the meanwhile, was continuing to peel back the infiltration,
and, as is eventually always the case in such affairs, she eventually
was discovered and came into battle with one of the Shell people. She
defeated him fairly handily, and discovered, to no one's immense
suprise, that he was a cat person of nondescript appearance under the
shell. She dragged the body back to Bleys for dissection and
investigation.
Thus ended the whole feeling of peace and tranquility. Ah well, it
was never long of this world.
