The Dude is a 6'2" tall, blond, somewhat unkempt hippy who appears to
be colorblind. He is also Fiona's son. This presents certain
problems.
His actual name is Kerpan, which he notes without further explanation
as his rationale for assuming his nom de plume. There are those who
might say that his assumed name has another reason behind it, to whit,
annoying his mother. Regardless, The Dude began the campaign run in
Chaos, as a sort of quasi-official ambassador of goodwill, and
fulltime student of the sorcerous arts (which, obviously, he's quite
good at).
The Chaosians, not knowing the term 'dude,' have naturally assumed
that 'Thedood' is his proper name, and this has led to some amusing
moments when a very dignified Chaosian servitor has loudly announced
the arrival of 'Count Thedood Do'Amber.'
Though The Dude affects a mellow, hippyish air, his friends have noted
that he isn't really all that into the peace and love kind of ideal,
having one of the more typically 'Amberite' personalities of his
generation. Still, his heart seems to be more or less in the right
place, and he was incredibly helpful for his Pattern abilities
in the battle against Mournblade's Taint.
The Dude also seems to be able to be involved in pretty near
everything one can think of: He was a major player in the assault on
Mournblade's castle in Chwongland, the killing of Robelone, a good
deal of the war in Cresewali, and was personally responsible (with
only a little help from Benedict) for the killing of Tiequero as well
as the capturing of Geffemo. Still, in the end, his position seems
largely unchanged, though, perhaps, with a bit more respect accorded
to him.
