Many Paths

Forging

Forging is the Many Paths answer to Conjuration, named a bit different to emphasize different aspects of the power (conjuring something is actually one of the more difficult things to do with Forging).

Forging is like Trump — a minor Power, heavily focussed around one thing, independent of Pattern and Logrus. It can be learned by anyone with a bit of Psyche (ten or more points), who has a teacher. Forging is known, but not exactly common, around both Amber and the Courts of Chaos, and, indeed, dotted liberally between.

Relationship of Trump Powers

It is not possible to Forge onesself in any way. Explanations for this vary, but it simply does not happen. Various "schools" of Forging go about the physical process in different ways. Some are purely mental in nature — concentrate long enough, and the deal is done — and some involve physical accoutrements, but the underlying process seems to be the same, and the end product does not appear to be measureable different.

Enhance
Cost: 10 pts
Prerequisites:
Allows: Imbue, Enhance Life

Enhance allows the Forger to increase the strength of an already-present quality in an inanimate item.

The artifact creation rules can be used as inspiration for the sort of qualities that one might enhance, and the levels to which one might enhance them. Think things like armor, damage, and the like.

Enhance works only on non-living, non-intelligent objects which are less mechanically (or electrically) complex than a compound bow. Trying to use it on more complex objects or creatures tends to kill the creature, destroy the object, or simply not work.

Enhance is temporary, but fairly long-lasting. It will usually fade slowly over the course of a month or so. Shadow travel will cause much faster fading. Higher Psyche and Forging skill prolongs the Enhancement.

It generally takes a few hours to Enhance a quality, longer the stronger the Enhancement.

Enhance Life
Cost: 3 pts
Prerequisite: Enhance
Allows: Imbue Life, Enhance Sentience

A Forger may learn the subtlty necessary to Enhance a living creature or complex machine without destroying it. Everything works like a normal enhancement, but the process is trickier, and takes twice as long.

A Forger may not Enhance the intelligence of a creature or other intelligent or semi-intelligent being with this ability.

Enhance Sentience
Cost: 2 pts
Prerequisite: Enhance Life
Allows: Imbue Sentience

If a creature or object has some level of native intelligence, a Forger may learn to Enhance it. This process is subject to all of the normal Enhancement restrictions, and takes twice as long as Enhancing any other traith on a living creature or complex object.

Imbue
Cost: 5 pts
Prerequisites: Enhance
Allows: Conjure, Imbue Life

Once a Forger has mastered Enhancing already extant traits, he can learn to imbue traits in objects which did not previously have them.

The base item one must start with is restricted as per Enhance. However, the traits that one imbues can give it a semblance of increased complexity. One may not Imbue the trait of intelligence.

Imbuels are even more temporary than Enhancements, lasting only about half as long, and are even more vulnerable to upset in Shadow movement.

Imbuing takes twice as long as Enhancing.

Imbue Life
Cost: 3 pts
Prerequisites: Imbue and Enhance Life
Allows: Imbue Sentience and Conjure Life

As one would expect, this allows one to Imbue living beings or complex objects. Takes twice as long as Imbuing simple objects.

Imbue Sentience
Cost: 2 pts
Prerequisites: Imbue Life and Enhance Sentience
Allows: Conjure Sentience

Allows one to Imbue the quality of Sentience. Takes twice as long as Imbuing any other trait in the target object would.

Conjure
Cost: 5 pts
Prerequisites: Imbue
Allows: Conjure Life

The final refinement of Forgery is the ability to simply create an object of the desired specifications.

At this level, only simple objects can be conjured, and the Conjury takes twice as long as Imbuel would. However, Conjured objects are permenant.

Conjure Life
Cost: 5 pts
Prerequites: Conjure and Imbue Life
Allows: Conjure Sentience

The ability to Conjure complex objects or living beings. This takes twice as long as conjuring a simple object would, and any living being created in such a manner can be no more intelligent than a rather stupid mammal or bird.

Conjured objects and creatures are permenant, but that doesn't mean that something like a Conjured gun will work everwhere.

Conjure Sentience
Cost: 5 pts
Prerequisites: Conjure Life and Imbue Sentience
Allows:

Conjure pretty much anything you want. The trait of intelligence takes twice as long as another trait would to Conjure.
