Pre-Game Decisions

There's one huge pre-game decision you need to make, more important than nearly anything else related to this hobby: You need to figure out what story you'll be placing the characters in.

But I'm not helping you with that.

Okay, that's a minor lie — I've tossed out a few hooks in the miscellaneous section, if you're searching for inspiration. However, this section is going to be about the things you need to decide after you've gotten that germ of an idea which will eventually become a campaign. Those decisions fall into two categories: "game" and "meta-game," but I feel that far and away the "biggest" of the game decisions is what your canon will be (particularly difficult when there're ten novels worth of pre-existing story in your universe).

Canon Meta-Game
How to decide the fundamental in-game limits of your campaign, and advice on when to adhere to Zelazny and when to venture forth on your own. Making decisions that keep your game for descending into the realms of the boring or even the spiteful.
