Okay, I'm really just throwing stuff up here right now, but it may be useful. I'll try to give a little more background information when I'm not reworking my entire set of pages at once.
If you don't know what a MU* is, or why I'm making a big deal over the difference between MUD's, MUSH's, MOO's, MUX's, etc, this link's for you
I've started to look around for good guides to the purposes and
intents of MU*ing, and this page just jumped out at me... If the
whole concept of MU*ing and role-playing sounds interesting, but
you've never done it before, try RPer's
Resources. (On a side note, if people seem unaccountably angry
with you over things you do on a RP based MU*, some of RPer's tips
might come in handy).
A World of Darkness role playing MUSH. I play a Changeling, and heartily
reccomend both this MUSH and the Changeling Sphere to anyone interested in
such things.
One of two extant Rifts MU*'s. I have a normal character here.
The one and only Immortals (no, not Highlander) MU*. I'm an Immortal
player. Still low on players, so give it a look-see. It's a fascinating
system.
And here are some much more comprehensive lists of MU*'s. (Though I make no claims as to their accuracy or completeness)
I use the SimpleMU MU* client from my Win95 machine, a solid, shareware
MU*client with a nice interface. It's also rather frequently upgraded. If
you're sick of dealing with raw telnet (and you should be), I heartily
reccomend SimpleMU. It can be downloaded
and read about at the SimpleMU
Homepage.
On my UNIX accounts, I use the perenial
TinyFugue (or tf)
client, also freewear, which is something of a MU* standard.
