You aren't gone yet? How odd. Well, when I first began to use my computer as
more than a word processor and games platform, I decided I needed a
handle; of course, this was before the days of my being on the
internet. We're talking BBS's here. Anyway, I chose the name "Apok,"
because it was short, distinctive, I liked the sound of it, and few
people were likely to know the source from which I took it. (Rifts
Wormwood, if you must know).
Anyways, I eventually got to college, and needed a finger name. "Apok" sprang naturally to mind. However, come the middle of the year, I was bored, classes were easy, and I eventually decided to change my finger name (go life decisions!). On a whim, I chose "Epoch," on the grounds that 1. It was a word. 2. The way I pronounced it at the time was similar to the way I pronounced Apok. 3. I was bored.
So "Epoch" was my new finger name. I kept it. It's kind of cool sounding. Little did I realize.
Then I went home for the summer, and found my kid sister was an IRC addict. (If you know Murmaid, and she didn't direct you here, you may live in shock and awe. You managed to randomly find a brother and sister online). I tried the #anime channel, and naturally chose the name "Epoch" as my nick.
Well, on that very session of the #anime channel, one Nakiko found me and introduced me to MUCKing, specifically, AnimeMUCK. When I got my character there, I called him "Epoch," and then I wrote (about that character) "Burying Your Mistakes: The Story Of An Epoch." And then... Well, you get the idea. I no longer have a character on AnimeMUCK, but I still use this name for anything internet related. It's kind of fun. Gives me an identity. And I don't know anyone else who uses it.
