So, tomorrow morning I must awake early to bus home for Christmas where I will enjoy the traditional Chinese buffet.
Meanwhile, here's something that's been on my mind in the last few days. I'm not big on following all the details of current events, but I feel like I'm missing something. Trent Lott was forced to resign as Senate Majority Leader because he said he supported Strom Thurmond. Now granted, most of my friends harbor no love for Trent Lott, so they're happy to have him deposed regardless of cause. But he's being kicked around by the media and the public and even his own party, all for saying he supports Strom Thurmond.
Isn't it worse to be Strom Thurmond? Strom Thurmond, to the best of my knowledge at 11:01 pm EST on December 24, 2002, is still alive. And not just alive, but serving as a Senator. In the Senate. The same Senate that's kicking around Trent Lott for saying he thinks Strom would run the country well. If we are infuriated by people who see Thurmond as the Perfect Strom, shouldn't we be working to get Strom himself demoted? And if being Strom isn't so bad, aren't we overreacting to a fellow who supports him?
I mean, the way things are going now, it's as crazy as expressing disapproval for a foreign dictator by attacking followers acting under his unpleasant orders, while happily giving the red carpet diplomatic treatment to the man himself. Yessir, that would sure be crazy.
I remember why I avoid the news now.
