Yesterday, amidst the rest of this weekend's festivities, there was a huge tag sale in the basement of the building where I work. Both a company from the building and Williams College were getting rid of a whole lot of stuff. I went down to take a quick peek, and saw that most of the chairs were selling for just $5 each. Some of these were very cool chairs, so I picked up a big comfy cushioned chair, a small plasticky swivelling chair, and a wooden rocking chair that doesn't rock but can hopefully be repaired. Then I saw a little floor mattress that's a bit dirty to sleep on, but it was only $7, so I thought it would be great for our living room.
Now, it's rare that I'm one of those people who buy things just because they're on sale, but in this particular instance, after buying all of these items, I noticed an amazing deal on something I really like. I looked at it whistfully, presumed it was too expensive and I'd have nowhere to put it, and moved on. But I came back 20 minutes before the end of the sale (apparently it had started the day before, and this was the last day). I asked the fellow if anyone had bought it, and he said because nobody had, he'd even lower it from $50 to $40 for me, which was such a great deal that I couldn't possibly refuse, so I bought it.
I am now the proud owner of an upright piano. The piano is still in the basement of my work building, and I am supposed to remove it within the next three weeks. The snag in this plan is that I'm moving out of this house now, and the apartment I'm renting come September is on the third floor of a house on a hill with no elevator, and is also too small for a piano. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with the piano, but I can honestly say this:
It seemed like a good idea at the time.
