Issue of the week: "The Di is Cast"
by Seth Brown

The world has so many folks in it
That a few of them die every minute.
  It should be no surprise
That if death is a prize,
Eventually all of us win it.

To balance birth there is mortality,
Though to mention it strays from normality.
  Most people would consider
  The thought far too bitter
That life can be cut short by a malady.

Yet the facts must be faced as they are:
Diseases kill, as can a car.
  Though such crashes aren't rare
  The public will not care
Except in the case of a star.

Well, one year ago a star did fall;
Princess Diana was loved by all.
  All of her royal cash
  Couldn't stop the car crash
Which killed her (driven by Henri Paul).

Henri Paul was quite drunk at the time,
And to drink while you drive is a crime.
  There is much criticism
  That his alcoholism
May have caused Di to die in her prime.

With these two was Dodi al-Fayed
Diana's friend, son of Harrod's head.
  Killed in their own Mercedes
All three were sent to Hades
Now Henri, Di, and Dodi are dead.

The spotlight has turned to the Queen,
Accused by some of being too mean.
When of Di's death she learned
  Rumors are, her concern
Was with where Charles' jewels could be seen.

Charles himself has his own paramour
Named Camilla, whom he does adore.
  With this equestrienne
  He is hoping he can
Have the "stable" life he lacked before.

But the fact remains, Di is now gone.
And it's well past time that we moved on.
  Our world's history finds
  Deaths of truly great minds
More worthy, which we don't dwell upon.

Some true geniuses died long ago,
Salk made a vaccine for Polio.
  Folks like Louis Pasteur
  And the old inventors
Helped our culture more than we can know.

Yet these great men's deaths aren't celebrated
With the interest Diana's has rated.
  The way death is unfurled
Is just part of this world,
And to this we should be acclimated.

So let Di join the ranks of the past,
In a universe that is quite vast.
  For no matter how birth
  Has assigned us on Earth,
We all end up the same at the last.
