Issue of the week: "Iraq-Know-Phobia"
by Seth Brown

Iraq has done things in the past
That left most other nations aghast.
Once a clear threat was gleaned
  The U.S. intervened
And took care of the problem quite fast.

Eight years ago, Saddam Hussein
Made his raid over desert terrain.
  He invaded Kuwait
  Thinking that it was great
Since he had lots of oil to gain.

But President Bush took command,
Stating, "This aggression will not stand."
  He then took the course
  Of deploying a force
Onto Saudi Arabian sand.

Schwarzkopf was in charge of the war
Since he had experience from before.
  This qualified Norm
  To run Desert Storm
And give orders to all of the corps.

The orders that Norm Schwarzkopf had
Were to strike at Saddam in Baghdad.
  So what finally transpired
  Is that missiles were fired
At Iraqi's air force launching pad.

Their airfield was turned to mud,
And we soon nipped Saddam in the bud.
  As he beat a retreat
  His defeat was complete
When the Patriot took out the Scud.

So sufficient damage had been wrought,
Or at least that's what everyone thought.
But since he was not killed
  He had time to rebuild
And again we now fear what he's got.

We still have troops on Saudi soil,
Since our allies there have remained loyal.
  But the impending threat
  Of a missile has set
Our priorities farther than oil.

Operating in the Middle East
Can be difficult, to say the least.
  All nearby Arab states
  Can shoot missiles at rates
That over the years have increased.

We fear that a neighboring nation
Might give terrorists cooperation.
  A missile that's portable
  Would be quite horrible
And perhaps cause defense penetration.

It's a challenge to just stay alive,
When outnumbered by thirty to five.
  It would be a disgrace
If a bomb hit our base
So to protect this fortress we strive.

Our own missiles will hopefully parry
Any sent by a sly adversary.
  To survive in a land
  Where death is at hand,
One must be eternally wary.
