Issue of the week: "A Nuke Boom Sweeps Clean"
by Seth

Years ago, we endured the Cold War,
Russia had nukes which we couldn't ignore.
We had thought it might halt
Due to treaties like SALT,
But it's getting as bad as before.
We've begun to perceive a new threat
From our erstwhile friends Soviet.
They said they would destroy
The nukes, but it's a ploy.
Have they followed through on their word? Nyet.
We hoped Reagan had scared them all off,
When he met with Mikhail Gorbechev.
He in Moscow was fixin'
To do just like Nixon,
Make nukes something at which we'd scoff.
But like all pacts made under duress,
It was mere temporary success.
Nukes have come once again
To be launched by madmen
Causing our world to be in a mess.
There is lots of well-justified fear
Of a madman with power nuclear.
Even if we can't see him,
With just one ICBM
He could blow up a large city here.
And madmen get a whole lot more mad
When there's easy weapons to be had.
There will be repercussions
From sales by the Russians
Since their economy has gone bad.
According to intelligence spooks,
Criminals there are auctioning nukes.
When money is tight,
There is no sense of right.
Merchants of death sell missiles to kooks.
And there's no shortage of information
How to build nukes to blow up a nation.
All this deadly research
Will result in scorched earth
Due to nuclear proliferation.
We should be wary of this condition
There is great power in nuclear fission.
With a bit of Uran-
Ium, people insane
Could start a horrible war of attrition.
These developments are quite intense,
Concerning these nuclear events.
If bombs are changing hands
This occurrence demands
That we keep up an active defense.
