Issue of the week: "Crude Practices"*

*to the tune of "Puff the Magic Dragon"
Listen and sing along! (open in new window)

Oil, the magic substance
Fills us all with glee
And that is why we want it now
From beneath the Caspian Sea

Uncle Sam was thirsty
For that vaunted oil
And sent troops to Kazakhstan
To keep the natives loyal. Oh!

Oil, the magic substance
Is anything but free
And OPEC charges way too much
So we need the Caspian Sea

Our military force there
Was a quite impressive sight,
And made it seem we would ally
If there ever were a fight

Azerbaijan officials
Thought that this was great
We'd back them up with all our might
Just like we did in Kuwait. Oh!

Oil, the magic substance
Precious as can be
But we are not the only ones
Looking at the Caspian Sea

It is slightly misleading
To have our troops there sit
Because if it should come to war
The US may not commit

Iran has the location
To mine oil right off their shoal,
And down in Moscow, Russia plans
An imperial control

Soon, there will be drilling
All along the ocean floor
No matter how much oil we find
There is always need for more

Oil, the magic substance
Can cause hostility
The nations fight to gain the right
To the oil in the Caspian Sea
