The Williams College Zambezi Marimba Band is a group of 6 students and Professor of Music Ernest Brown who come together weekly to learn African marimba music and have fun together. Most of the music we play originates from Zimbabwe, though we occasionally learn Zambia, Ghanian or Ugandan pieces. Before this year, we learned in the traditional African way: by listening and imitation. This year, however, we have converted to using sheet music. It makes everything much clearer. We perform about four times a year for the greater Williamstown community.
