Charlie Pierce who appears regularly on NPR's "Only A Game" and "Wait, Wait… Don't Tell Me" and writes for Sports Illustrated and Esquire magazines will speak at the 30th Frank Deford and 10th Aaron Pinsky awards ceremony Thurs., April 25 at 7:00 PM in Griffin Hall, Room 3 on the campus of Williams College.
The Deford and Pinsky awards are believed to be the only awards of their kind in U.S. intercollegiate athletics. The Deford and Pinsky awards are presented to Williams College students who have made the most outstanding contributions to Eph Sports Information during the academic year.
This year's Deford Award recipients are Cori Chan '19, Ezekiel Cohen '19, and Ryan Rilinger '20 and the two Pinsky Award winners are Cory Lund '21 and Rock Stewart '20. All five of this year's award winners are varsity athletes.
Pierce whose writings have appeared in most of the U.S. major daily newspapers has also authored four books. He has won numerous national writing awards throughout his distinguished sports writing career. Pierce has appeared more times in the Best American Sports Writing books than any other sports writer.
Pierce worked under Frank Deford who was the Editor-in-Chief of "The National Sports Daily" in the early 1990s.
Pierce will speak on "Storytelling for a New Century" and he will take questions from the audience.
The event is free and open to the public.
