Hour 5, Podcasts, was headed up by Allison Smith and Daniel Klein. I think that, as a group, we felt that this subject--never really having been broached in Trivia before--was one whose time had come. We figured that if we split it among many different podcasts covering a range of tastes However, if teams overperformed our expectations on My Little Pony, our hopes for podcasts went somewhat unfulfilled. Some teams knew some questions from their more mainstream links--stuff like the B.S. Report via Bill Simmons's broader media presence, Chris Hardwick/Paul Gilmartin/John Hodgman through their TV gigs, various stuff linked to NPR, etc.--but for the most part, here, either you Googled or you got single digits in raw score. The sprinkling of questions from different podcasts had something of a reverse impact, too, in the sense that some teams really knew one topic but got shut out everywhere else. Ah well--we tried something different, and I think the audience for this one is out there somewhere, just not playing this past Saturday morning. Had a Scav Elf-like team showed up and killed it, we might look at how this one played out differently. I actually don't have the key for this on me, so hopefully Allison and Dan can post that one.
